Hi I was wondering is their anyone who has experience with the nursing program at triton. Or how would they rate the nurses coming out of triton college. Any response would be apprecitated

Hi I just got accepted at Triton for fall2007, are you going to be attending the program in fall 2007 as well ? To answer your original questions, some of the people I know who were in the program said it was no piece of cake, two of them passed but said it was hell on earth-meaning very hard and tons of memorization and reading, one who was working while attending the program got kicked out for low test scores.

hello, just graduated from triton this May 2007, that was a long 2 years of studying, i feel like i went to a 4 year university of nursing. I think its a really good nursing school, i think if you can make it out of there in 2 years you'll have a really good foundation in nursing content. For me it wasn't that hard, but you really have to read a lot, you just have to know your nursing content. Buy the saunders comprehensive book, do a lot of Q&A that's what i did for the second year, i didn't wanna read those book they have like Brunners med surg book. The hardest semester in Triton is the second semester once you get buy it you'll be fine its because you have 4 classess in one semester PHARMACOLOGY 1 & 2,medsurg,and OB. you'll have a test every week. in OB we had to read 500 pages in one week. Pharmacology is the toughest class in triton 20 people fail during our pharmacology class. 3rd semester is easy. 4th semester a lot of paper again management stuff and acute medsurg and high risk OB very tough classes, plus you have to pass the HESI exit exam the last semester or else you can't graduate, some people say it's harder than the NCLEX, that i don't know yet. Luckily i pass the HESI thank god. For the last 3 years Triton had a 100%passing in NCLEX except last year 2 people fail but they pass the second try. Triton really makes the nursing program hard, so they know that if you can pass thier curriculum they know you have no problem passing the NCLEX. I actually have some friends that failed the class, had to comeback in one year, that realy sucks. anyways Good luck on your nursing program in triton just study hard don't fall behind. i know i made it sound a really hard nursing program, but it is!!! you just have to tough it out.

Jeffry, thanks for those tips, Im starting soon and I heard it will be two very hard years, I also heard that pharmacology is very difficult in triton, now that I heard it again from you...I think I will start reading the pharmacology ahead of time, do you think that taking basic pharmacology course at triton would help with passing the pharmacology in the nursing program and do you also suggest taking the medical terminology course before starting nursing classes?

Good luck with NCLX:balloons:

Thanks for the responses. I have one more question about the second semester. You said that the pharm class was hard. I actually have taken one year of nursing school before and have taken pharm for nursing along with a pharm that was a 3 credit course. So my question is the nursing math that was hard or is it drug knowledge and application.

Kasia i think you should just enjoy the summer, and just study hard when the program start, for me i think it would be hard to study early without knowing what you need to study. medical terminoly class you can learn all that in the program. i guess if you have time this summer it wouldn't hurt taking pharmacology class.

Pmh27 --> i guess it depends what school you took pharmacology, but Triton Pharmacology is hard according to the majority of students. MATH is really easy they don't even test you on that, they do that in medsurg class. i guess what makes it hard is you have a test every week, after pharm you have to study again for medsurg, after that back to pharm again. Drugs knowledge and application is the key in pharm, test question is base on clinical settings or scenario. every exam you also have to memorize 10-15prototype drugs and you have to know all the adverse effects and contraindication, with food or meal etc. for example one prototype THEOPHYLLINE, you should know all the adverse effect in the book, i had to make nmemoniks for all the phototype to help me momorize them all, like for theophylline i made up PINT-DAVIS ( P=palpitations,I=insomia,N=nervouseness,T=Tachycardia)-(D=i forgot this one, A= ????, V=vomiting, I=irritability, S=seizure) i forgot some of them already i don't know if their correct i have to look it up in my PHARM book. that's only the prototype meds, a lot more reading in the book for the test. as long as you study i think you can pass it. you already have some pharm knowledge from your other school, you just have to reenforce it again.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: TAKE MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY especially if you don't have any exposure to the medical field. It will be invaluable in all nursing courses. We still have students that try to memorize terms instead of simply recalling the prefix and/or suffix to the terms. Some don't understand the correllation in terms such as hypoglycemia and hypotension...in that they're both "LOW"....crazy isn't it?

Hi Kasia--

I sent you an email some time ago, but I don't know if you ever got it. At any rate I am going into my second year at Triton. The other posters are telling you correctly- Triton is damn difficult! One of my best friends will be with your class in the Spring because she did not make it in Pharm. Pharm is very hard. I have been blessed and I would love to pass on the blessings on. PM me and I can pass on what knowledge I have.

Intro to nursing academics is a waste of money, thats what my other friend told me that took it. i didn't take that class and so did a lot of my classmate. your only required to take that class if your grades are low in triton.

Im starting medical terminology class this upcoming wensday...better be safe than sorry...I never was exposed to medical field before so I need to understand the basics of medical terms...at the end it can only help...I also registered for basic pharmacology course...This class starts next month...I know I should try to pick up second job to save more money for the second semester of nursing..anyway sayalitittleprayer skype me skype name is; Beatrice6530, thanks in advance
