The best cardiac care

Where would you send your Mom or Dad for the best cardiac care? I ask because I am a cardiac patient in good health and my PCP is affiliated with Loyola and Elmhurst Hospital. If I needed any cardiac care I'm scared now hearing how disorganized the poorly managed the tele unit is at Loyola. Should I not go there for cardiac care if I ever need it? Where should I go if I ever need surgery?

Don't know if you are interested in any hospitals other than those two, but you might want to check out Cleveland Clinic...pretty good hospital. Supposed to be the best in cardiac in the country.

I would recommend Cleveland Clinic also, especially since you are relatively close to it.......... :)

I give a huge thumbs up to the CCF as a teaching institution.....was a patient there for a few years for something else, but that hospital is awesome. Loyola's tele is extremely disorganized- always short staffed of RN's, etc- however, they ARE building an entirely free-standing cardiac ctr on one of the parking lots- should be done in 2 yrs. Hopefully, things will get better by then.

Anywhere Midwest Heart is affiliated with is good....I think they may be affiliated with Good Sam's and Hinsdale at least- probably Elmhurst too. I know a fair amt of people have pacers put in at Hinsdale. Almost all of their docs are Loyola trained fellows. My personal opinion- as I've said before- the majority of the cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, and cards surgeons are very renowned- especially in Chicago- esp. Mike Bahkos. I'd go to him for any open heart. But know that the nursing shortage on that floor is awful. (And if the managers had the balls to fire people, it would get better with time. I think that upper management just needs to fire them.)

just kind of an addendum to this-

loyola's outpatinet cardiology dept is very, very good; if tom mckiernan is taking new patients (i kind of doubt he is, though), i'd try to get in with him- and i think he sees patients at loyola's clinic in elmhurst. it's their inpatient i'm a bit weary of.....

edited to add a few more comments about the cardiologists...

shrieber, jacobs, and mckiernan are very good; scanlon is too, but he's dying of a glioblastoma (i think)....some cancerous brain tumor at least. jacobs and shrieber are both good with patients, from my experience. i got to know jacobs pretty well a few years ago, as a family member of his was a patient of mine for a week or 2.
