Resurrection University Fall 2014

U.S.A. Illinois

Hello all and Happy New Year!

I'm starting this thread so that all my fellow applicants for Resu Fall 2014 can have a place to come and ask any and every question that may come to mind. I know I am a tad bit (ok a lot of bit lol) early since the app deadline isn't until April 1st. However, it would be great to hear from all of you as we start this app process.

Where are you taking your prerequisites now? Are you applying to any other BSN programs? Is there anything you are worried/nervous about as far as applying goes?

Unfortunately it took me 2 years to find a nursing job. Thank God I had my accounting job to sustain me

I did not get an extensive orientation. I am in psych so there is not a lot of medical care to give like you would on a medical floor. Mostly PO and IM meds. I got 6 weeks orientation before going on my own. 2 weeks on each shift. I had a few good preceptors and ongoing support from different nurses on the floor. I was lucky to be hired in a team oriented group.

school is a load of garbage.

Hi, I am currently in the evening/wknd program. As far as your social life for BOTH day and evening program, you can temporarily say GOODBYE to it, but it will all be more than worth it in the end! The amount of work is tremendous, which is more than fair seeing as we are doing 4 years worth of BSN work in 16-20 months. I have no idea how someone can tell you they didnt read and got a B. Unless you are working in a hospital now and are doing a lot of hands on work, I can guarantee you there is no way someone can not read and "get by" in the program. You need to maintain above 80% or you get academic notices. An A is a 92%. You cannot get under a 75% on exams. As far as having time to study if you are in the evening program, I know quite a few people in the evening program, myself inclyded, who have had to quit their jobs or cut down on hours bc their is never enough time possible to study. Best of luck to you!

That is correct. I am currently in the evening wknd program. It varies. First term we had class 3 ngihts a week 5-10:15. Second term we had class ONE night a week 5-10:15, and then only on thursdays for exams.

Next term we have class 3 nights a week 5-8 or 5-10 plus saturday clinical 7 am to 6 pm. The work load is tremendous, so even though its evening weekend, the work load is HUGE which is more than fair bc we are doing 4 years of BSN work in just 16-20 mo.

Wow.

Thank you, ECANurse for your tangible insights.

Its definitely helpful to hear the reality of a part-time nursing student. I totally believe there is a great deal of work. I just hope the work load does not lead to quitting a/my daytime job. Financially, this would not be a viable option, especially since an RN job is not guaranteed after graduation.

Very nerve-wrecking

Hi,ECANurse

I am currently studying for the teas test (do you have any suggestion as far as study material?)I am also finishing up my pre-reqs and hopefully I will be in the program for Fall 2015. Do you know of anyone in the program with less than a 2.75 GPA overall and in science who were accepted in the program. Any suggestions would be helpful and input. I too am applying for the evening/wknd program.

Each person studies and retains in different ways. Not all of us had the luxury to quit our jobs which paid the mortgage, utilities and raising kids. 3 of us in the E/W program held full-time jobs, sometimes working OT, and took care of kids. You just have to realize there is virtually no social life outside of work and school.

You do what you have to do to get through. Passed NCLEX on first try...as did the other full-time working moms.

Oh, and I didn't work in a hospital. I was working as an accountant 8-4pm in a corporation.

Nice!

Thank you fgreen for clarifying your experience as a nursing student.

I noted previously I was accepted to the daytime BSN program but due to financial-support/tuition paymemt*, i had to defer enrollment and opt for the E/W program (due to begin in May 2015).

* I would like to avoid as much student/private loan debt as I can.

Although it is not my ideal/first choice; it looks as though I have no choice. I'm also the kind of student that needs twice as much time to retain and study as the average student. Its comforting to hear the E/W program is doable with a daytime work commitment.

.....of course my fear is; burn-out. :nailbiting:

Hi everyone!

I know that the last comment on this post is close to a year old, but I was recently accepted into the BSN day program for Spring 2016. For all those that started in Fall 2015, how are you doing now? Has the program been hard to keep up with? I talked to a counselor at Res U and he said most people cannot handle a job while in the BSN daytime program. Just wondering if any of you were able to do it?!

Thanks in advance for any insight you have :)

What do you mean they won't give you the clinical hours you need? I am applying for Spring 17.

Hi ECANurse... The first two terms do not include clinical correct? Thanks!

I have a questions for those that are in the program. On the Academic Calendar it shows there are breaks between semesters... is there a lot of work that needs to be done during that time? Clinicals? Or is it a good time to take a short vacation?

Thanks!
