Other SSU pre-licensure BSN applicants?

U.S.A. Illinois

Hi all,

I'm brand new to this forum. Who else has applied to SSU's pre-licensure BSN program? The anticipation is killing me! ;) Does anyone know whether the overall G.P.A minimum of 3.0 applies to the last 60 units of college work only? I definitely meet that, but had a mediocre grades stint back in the 1990s, when I got my BA. (I'm an older student at 40.)

Good luck to everyone applying to nursing schools right now. I was accepted to Dominican University, but getting into their nursing program is separate, and one must stay enrolled to eventually get in.

Thanks again!

Aww that's really sweet of you and I bet those visits mean a lot to your patients. I think that's a wise choice on your behalf. I am alternate 8 so I guess now I would be 7. I am alternate at Chico so I am hoping people will inform Chico ASAP if they don't plan on attending. I read the sac board because I applied there but I knew I wouldn't get in. And from there it sounds like a lot of those people applied to Chico as a back up. It just makes it really hard being an alternate because I still can't really plan for anything like housing and all that kind of stuff. I am just hoping people who got in to multiple programs let the ones they don't want to attend know ASAP to help those on waitlists. I am so excited for you! Congrats!

Thanks very much, meib92 and caligirl7! I look forward to (hopefully) being classmates with both of you.

And caligirl, I understand the appeal of Chico, and get that things are up in the air right now. I lived in Chico for many years, went to high school and college #1 there, and met my husband there. My dad was a prof at Chico State, and I know that town inside-out (or used to 10 years ago). You will love it there too, if you choose Chico.

I am excited for all of us to start on our new adventure of becoming nursing students! I am also somewhat terrified, but that will fade. ;) I feel very fortunate. Let's do this thing!

Ya I just want a for sure in to a school that was more of my top choices. But I know how grateful and thankful I am to have gotten in somewhere on my first round of applying. I know the stories of people who repeatedly apply and it can take years. I am hoping in the next couple weeks but really I am trying not to get any of my hopes up. I feel like this has been a lot of let downs and emotions these past few weeks. Best of luck to everyone in their future endeavors. Congrats to all those who got in to a program or programs. So happy to have virtually "met" you all. I feel like I have gotten to know you personally through are shared experiences.

Caligirl, my son is a freshman at Chico State. A good friend of mine who is now a Ped ICU nurse at UCSF went there too. And my brother got his masters as Chico and still lives there. Love that town and that school.

Congrats to Meib92, caligirl7 and Tall4 for SSU RN Fall 2014 program. I will be there with you. We should have lunch together before school starts! I have a good friend who also got in as a transfer student.

How bit will our cohort be? Where do we do clinicals. I didn't get to orientation and I have so many questions. Tall4 I am a bit terrified too, are we really stepping forward in to this? Also super excited.

Caligirl I loved my hospice rotations for HHA. Petaluma hospice. Would love to hear more about your experience as a volunteer. I want to do that someday soon, time permitting. State exam for CNA tomorrow and then I am free for summer to start preparing. Anyone have any tips or plans for getting ready for Fall coursework....?

Thank you! I got in to chico for fall so that's where I will be headed. You will do great for your state exam just stay calm, which I know sounds hard but I went in there and pretended it was serious skills with my instructor and it meant nothing if I messed up. I absolutely love volunteering in the ER it has definitely given me a new mind set of where I may like to end up. Thank you so much for sharing that about Chico. Hopefully, I can be done and get a job like your friend did. Best of luck to all of you!

Go Cats! Love Chico. Congrats on your acceptance. That is a great program. If something changes let us know.

Thank you beth2366! I am so excited. I still feel it hasn't quite hit me since it has always felt so far away before I would be in a program. But now it's here and we are going to be nursing students in the fall. Yayy!!
