Memorial Medical Center - Anyone work there?

Anyone work/live in Springfield, IL. I am interested in Memorial Medical Center. I don't live in IL. I would be relocating for a job. Their website looks like they really focus on their nursing staff, but I am interested in first hand info if possible.

I worked there until a few months ago (only left because I relocated). I, too, only moved to Springfield for the job. I miss Memorial a lot and while any job/employer/manager has issues, I definitely felt supported as a nurse and like I was an important part of the hospital.

i moved to springfield 5 months ago to take a position at mmc. i love it here! the teamwork is amazing. i do feel very supported as a nurse and the hospital offers lots of continuing education classes and seminars to promote your growth as a nurse. this is my first nursing job so i don't have anything to compare it to but i do believe they do take good care of their employees.

just be prepared to move to a small town, just because it is the state capitol doesn't make it a large town!

hi frog kissing nurse. I applied to the residency program there for may 2012 grads. can you please give me some info regarding timelines, what the program is like, pay, how it was relocating to a small town (i'm from chicago). and anything else you'd be willing to share :) thanks much.

I've started in July through the nurse residency program. 2 weeks on onboarding before you hit the floor. My preceptor was great and very helpful. I got 4 weeks of orientation and I feel that was enough to feel confident about my job. There are monthy new grad meetings about different topics like pain management, doctor communication. I find themvery educational The pay is $21/hr for day shift. Which is good for here. I work 3 twelve hour days and it's every third weekend.

I also moved from the chicago area. Once you do all the Lincoln stuff there isn't much to do around here in the winter time. The people are very friendly and it's easy to make fast friends. There is a mall and movie theatres and a decent night life. St Louis isn't far away either.

wow, only 4 weeks tho? i think i would need more! what school did you graduate from?

when did u apply for that position. i graduate in may, and i have applied already & they sent an email stating i would hear about something after the new yr.

when was your interview? & what unit do you work. sorry for all of the questions. i know u know how it feels to wanna graduate already! lol

oh, and i've been to springfield once....& idk how i'd do out of my comfort zone like that. not really used to all the laid back living...u know what i mean lol

I'm surprised at the above posts because I know a girl who interned at my hospital and decided to go work at memorial after she graduated. Needless to say, she was back a month later to ask for her position back. When I asked why she came back, she told me it was horrible at memorial. As new grad she was given 8 pts, 4 of them close to coding. She was overwhelmed to say the least. However, as mentioned above, it is safe to say that everyone is different.

I think a lot of that has to do with which floor you're on. I've heard oncology is like that because they are so under staffed. I usually have 5 patients. I've never had more than 6.

I applied in April and had my interview in May and started in July.
