Hi Everyone. Does anyone have any info about the Masters Entry Program through DePaul University? I'm just trying to find some good options.

Has anyone out there completed the program or are they in it currently?

Any info would be appreciated.

I just got my Financial Aid statement, and ouch.... Estimated cost of attendance for two quarters is $31k but my award's only for $13k, even though my estimated family contribution is only $6.8k for the entire year! Since I assume that current students have the same issue, how do you deal with the shortfall? Also, any ideas on why the rest of the money is missing?

Perhaps your award is only for tuition and not living expenses?

I would call the Fin Aid office and ask why your award is lower than expected.

Nope, the award doesn't even cover all of tuition for each quarter. I'll call them sometime today when I have the time...

Well that just sucks :( Did they somehow classify you as a undergrad vs grad? That might make a difference.

I know from looking at the Fed site that the max is 20,500 per yr (for grad) which does not even come close to covering tuition there. It leaves you with about a 8,000 hole to cover per yr. Which I guess you could make up with either private loans/work study/scholarships etc but then you have to add on living expenses.

If you ever want to come up to the NW burbs for a home cooked meal, my door is always open :)

The GradPlus loan which is a federal loan will cover the rest. Just google gradplus and depaul and the form will come up. Or I think you can get the form through campusconnect.

Good luck! DePaul is definitely expensive!

Hi. For some reason I can't make private messages. I was wondering if you could tell me about succeeding in the master's entry. I got accepted for January. How many days a week do you go to class? Can you have a part time job? Just some overall advice would be great. Thanks.

New users have to wait a while before sending PMs.

The first quarter they'll have you show up on campus at least three days a week, depending on how you set up your schedule. I showed up on four that quarter, but that's cos I moved into the city and decided that spreading things out a little would not hurt. One of those days on campus gets switched to being at your clinical site for the last third of the class for a half-shift, yay-this-is-the-hospital situation. Ours was at St. Joe's, rumor going around the dept is that yours might be elsewhere. Also, new for the fall start there's supposedly going to be an emphasis on geriatrics in NSG 301 (your intro class that has the lab/clinical component) but I'm not sure how true that is, or to what extent, since Fall does not start until the Wednesday after Labor Day.

You can have a part-time job, and many people do; just be prepared for it to be very part-time. I'm assuming that, since you're 25, you're returning to school rather than being fresh out of undergrad, so you're going to get hit both by the intensity of the work and the fact that DePaul's on the quarter system, which is a shock to those used the pace of semesters.

I am currently applying to different schools offering these types of programs (Rush and UIC) and I fgured that I would ask you your opinion. I am sure that you must be done or pretty close to completing this program. I wanted to know what was your take on it, was it really intense, how was the curriculum set up, and was there help (tutoring etc) for students who needed help in certain areas. Due to these being newer programs I have heard some horror stories about Rush some semesters were set up as only half days and the next semester it was all day, there did not seem to be any real structure to the program.

I am in the cohort which graduates this November. The first and fifth quarters are intense, the rest less so. The curriculum is set up with clinical every non-summer quarter, RN-specific academic classes in the first few quarters, and the Research Project and APN-Core courses spread out through the middle and last quarters of the program. There's no set tutoring program, though students do tend to help each other out with coursework. DePaul's program is actually one of the oldest of its type in the country (the third, if I remember correctly), and there's a definite structure to the program, though it is still being revised to better meet the needs of students (for example, pharmacology is now spread out over two quarters whereas my cohort took it in one).

Thank u so much for the info! I had no idea that Depaul's program had been around that long. That sounds great that Pharmacology is now offered in two quarters because I hear it is a extremely difficult program. Congratulations to you I am sure u r very proud of this great acomplishments and I am sure the time must of flew. Well I have submitted everything and am waiting for a reply I am not in a hurry on when I can start I am pretty flexible at this time so please keep your fingers crossed :).

Do you recommend the program? I am confused whether to go to siue for their absn or depaul for thier menp? Any advice?

i was accepted to siue's absn program as well as depauls menp program...since u are attending depaul do you think for the money it cost and the degree you are awarded ..it was a good route to take? do u think this program gave u an advantage? i am not sure whether to go to choose the menp program or the absn...
