Depaul MENP fall 2012

U.S.A. Illinois

The painful wait begins. Have you applied or heard anything?

I received an email yesterday telling me they couldnt make a decision since I have two prereqs to finish and that I need to finish them first before I can be considered. Im a little more than upset that their website and their counselors told me I just had to be done before the start date of classes. I called Depaul and talked to someone about it and she was very vague and just kept saying to finish the prereqs and reapply. More than frustrated!

It is generous to accept people for the winter term rather than rejecting them outright and asking for a reapplication, but it sounds like they're not doing it across the board. Now there will be fewer open spots for the next term you'd be reapplying for, so this is just bad policy all around. A quick way to get a bad reputation too. There is no excuse to lie to students. Bet they loved getting your app fee though.

Mkuzel- did you email someone first and that's what they replied or was the email sent automatically?

They sent the email automatically on friday that said the following

"Thank you for applying to the Master’s Entry to Nursing Practice (MENP) program at DePaul University. The School of Nursing has completed an initial review of your application. Because you have prerequisite courses still in progress, the admission committee felt that it was unable to make a decision for fall term. Instead, they would like to review your application to winter term 2013. If you would like to have your application reviewed for the winter 2013 term (classes begin in January) please reply to this email. You also will need to submit an official transcript and/or proof of registration for any prerequisite courses in-progress by August 15, 2012.

after receiving this, I called admissions and she said that I had to finish prereqs before they would further review my application. I said I was under the impression you didn't have to complete the prereqs for the applicaiton, just before classes. (I was only short one class that I was enrolled for this summer). She told me "your application looks promising, but we'd like you to complete the prereqs before we can make a decision. To me I was neither denied or accepted, but rather wasnt even considered. beyond frustrated with them. thats all she would tell me.

Same exact email I recieved! As I posted earlier, I was in the same boat- met with them, chatted online, and sent emails and was told the same thing you were- pre reqs needed to be finished by the start of term : (It is frustrating because they didn't even hint that this might be an issue....Renee

Hey guys! The same email was sent to me as well. I still need to complete the lab portions of anatomy and physiology, so I'll be taking a combined A & P course (with lab) this summer. It's a bummer their website didn't explain the need to have all classes completed before we apply... I called admissions and they said though it's not a guarantee that we'll get accepted for the winter cycle, they'll "pull from" our applications first (whatever that may mean..). So this may give us an edge, but I'm not going to expect anything. It's nice we don't have to reapply though! I'm also considering applying to Rush and Loyola. I haven't checked yet, but do they also have a winter cycle? Does anyone have an opinion on these two programs (and how they compare to DePaul's MENP program)? Loyola is a bachelor's program, correct? Congrats to those you got accepted for the fall! And for the rest of us..good luck on your future programs!

:banghead: well i just talked to sarah in admissions and i made a BIG mistake with my application so this was all my own fault :crying2:

BUT she is going to let me try to fix this and attempt it again :w00t:

i totally messed up my personal statement so to those out there applying- write a good one unlike what i did!!

i just found this forum. i applied as well for the fall 2012 cohort but as i am just now taking the labs for anatomy and physiology, my application got pushed back for consideration for winter 2013. renee, i am interested in your personal statement errors.... what did you do differently? sarah from admissions told me in addition to sending in my transcripts, she would also recommend submitting a revised personal statement that explains specifically why i am interested in nursing. i hope i didn't do mine wrong. i am wondering when we will hear back after sending everything in and whether our chances are truly better than others applying for winter cohort... does anyone know if it is about the same amount of people applying for winter compared to fall?

Hi there!

Oh my- my personal statement drama....here goes....I downloaded the form on my iPad and filled it out- but I only did about a paragraph thinking I could attach my real statement that was 2 pages long...that got messed up and only the paragraph got sent and I listened to my husband who said that the short one was probably fine....it has been nagging me all along but I let it go....fast forward a few months and I called Sarah who said it was way to short and I should probably think about sending a new one- she was very nice about it and I just kept thinking "MAN I KNEW I should have fixed that!" Well drama doesn't end there.....

So I spend half a day fixing my paper and was all ready to submit it when I had to run out with my kids....my husband "sent" it for me only he sent my personal statement for Loyola- yes- to DePaul! : (

He did call them and explain what happened and resent the right one but I am pretty sure I have blown any shot I might have had at this point : (

I guess I will just keep hoping for the best.....moral of the story- listen to your gut and send your own forms : )

Honestly if Sarah said to just fix your statement that means they are at least looking at your file (yay!) so maybe just write a heartfelt statement that explains your goal and your drive to be in healthcare. I am sure they always hear the standard "I want to help people" so I would use that minimally.

Good luck!

Renee

Anyone going to the orientation on July 20th? Pretty excited to start this program..and nervous! Let me know if anyone decided to attend the Fall term. Or if you know anyone, please let me know..I would love to meet someone prior to starting the program!

Did anyone received the email from Sarah today? It stated that there were a few open spots left in the Fall 2012 cohort and we could have our application considered for this coming quarter.

Does anyone know when fall quarter actually starts? I am trying to think of pros and cons of this decision. Obviously it would be wonderful to be considered earlier. However, I am wondering if we would have less of a chance to get in, since there are probably only a few spots left open and we would be "considered first" if we waited til winter. Let me know what everyone is thinking!!

Hello All!

I just received my acceptance email today for this fall cohort! I'm beyond ecstatic! I originally applied for the winter 2013 cohort, so I'm off to a late start for this upcoming fall semester. I think I may have missed the orientation so I'm not sure what to expect but I know that I have about a week to get everything together! If anyone can fill me in on what books and supplies or anything else I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!!!
