Hi Everyone!

I'm going to start going to Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville starting in August and I was wondering if anyone can let me know what the public transportation system is like. I'm coming all the way from California and I've never been to Illinois so not sure if I really need to bring a car or not! If anyone has any tips on what to bring (clothes, etc) any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I hope I will be able to find where we are working at lol.. I went there the other day and didn't realize it was so big.

I'm a DACC student as well and I second the others on bring a car and warm clothes.

I really don't have anything interesting to add I just wanted to welcome you to Danville! :wink2:

Hello.I was born and raised in California and I moved to Chicago,Danville and back to Chicago.I know that you may already be here but here is my 2 cents.Danville weather sucks...But then again ALL weather sucks in comparison to California. The Winters are rough but not as rough as Chicago because you are further south.

The transportation in Danville sucks. The buses run once an hour in a big circle around the city. They stop running around 5 or 6 pm and they don't run on sundays or holidays. The bus drivers will make the other busses wait for you if you have to transfer so that's good.

Danville is Boring, but it is not dangerous so whomever said that must not live there. You can't determine if something is dangerous by "driving through".Yes,there are poor people there, but there are lots of poor people in most rural areas.Poor does not equal not safe(in most cases).

The North part of Danville is better than the south part. That school is North-west and the community college is South-east.

I used to always joke that the only thing to do in Danville for fun is to eat.Garfields in the mall is pretty good and if you drink the red lobster has the best bartender ever.

Good luck with school.

Cuteazz1 when was the last time you lived here? We've had a dramatic rise in crime rate in the past few years, shootings in broad daylight, increased gang activity, break ins, and rampant drug activity. I live in "nice" north neighborhood and just yesterday my neighbor's house was broken into in the middle of the day. There are definitely parts of this town that are not safe.

I do agree that there's nothing to do here. It's pretty bad when going to wal-mart is actually the most exciting thing you do in a weekend. :-)

I moved from Danville On August 17,2008.I lived in back of the starbucks. My neighborhood was perfectly safe.I have friends that live off of Gilbert,on Bowman and even in the "projects" called green meadows and I have always felt safe. But hey, coming from California and Chicago I am a city girl so my definition of safe may differ from yours...lol.

Teeheee....My boyfriend and I used to walk around Walmart at 2 A.M because we were so bored.I thought that I was the only one.

If anyone else is bored in Danville check out the student diversity club at DACC.We had lots of fun traveling, watching plays, eating, and getting to know other cultures with them.

Hi there

will you be able to provide info about EIU campus ? clinical sites ? labs ? Instructors ? ATI exit exams ? Which campus is better ? EIU or Danville ? Thanks alot for your time.!!

Hello @newnursingstudent12! I'm from California too and am heading to Danville this coming fall to start the program. Did you finish the program? how'd you like it? I basically have the same questions as you did regarding cars, clothes, any insight would help! Many thanks!
