College of Dupage letters mailed - Fall 2010

College of DuPage has mailed out acceptance letters for Fall of 2010.

Thanks so much for posting that. It puts me at ease. I will have everything done (gened/pre-reqs) and also waiting to take the CNA if I get in. I just didnt fair that well on the PAX so I am definitely retaking it in Dec. Feels good to know that people can get in on the first try.

Do you mind telling me a few hints on how you scored so well on the pax? When I studied with the book and other sources I thought I was good but for some reason it took me off guard.

Thanks.

I just used the study guide. I bought one used off Amazon, an older version, and checked the newer one out from the library. It had a CD-ROM with it that I downloaded to my computer and used to take practice tests. I have to say, though, that the test was WAY harder than the study guide! I really took my time and was one of the last ones to leave the test site.

Thank you so much for all the info. I def. Feel better prepared this time around. You should def. Let us all know how your first class goes. I hope to start next year.

I just wanted to share some information I learned at the most recent advising session: all qualified applicants for the Fall 2010 start were admitted. COD experienced a decline in applications and was able to admit all qualified persons on the alternate list as well.

That is great news! But also still worries me because a decline then may mean an increase this time around. 2009 was still a rough year for most. This year is a better one. If people made it from the alternate I wonder what caused them to be on the alternate and not to be on provisional? Even though they were accpeted. Did they happen ti mention what qualified ment? As if they met pre req criteria or what they thought was a qualified candidate? Sorry to scrutinize the good news!

If I'm not mistaken, there were 117 or 120 seats available for Fall 2010. I am assuming that "qualified" applicants received at least a C in both chemistry and A&P I, and met the minimum percentiles for the PAX (while also completing applications for the college and health sciences along with the $50 fee, attending an ADN advising session, and completing the program evaluation form).

Those with provisional status may have had more of the general education courses completed, previous degrees (associate's, bachelor's, or master's), and higher PAX percentiles.

Maureen led the advising session. As of August, only 17 or 18 student files had been started.

I love Maureen. She is very truthful. She is the one that told me to apply early and has helped with other things. Hopefully we all make it for 2011. Thanks for the info and good luck on the pax.

While all on the alternate list may have been accepted, all qualified applicants DID NOT get in.

COD accepted 117 and I believe 50 alternates. If all 50 alternates got in, that means 50 of the 117 probably applied to other places and were accepted.

There were plenty of people that met the requirements that did not make the initial 117 or the alternate list, so no, not all qualified applicants for Fall 2010 were accepted.

I agree. It is a mystery as to what they really want. On the website they have a score sheet but even then dont know what number you need to have to get in.

CODADN... how is it going in the program?

For those who got accepted. When did you take the Nursing 1100 class? I just wondered if it was in July or august. I think that's the course number.

Do you think I will have to take nursing 1100 if I took nursing 100 in 2001? According to COD's conversion catalog (quarters to semesters), the classes are considered equivalent. I'd probably retake it anyway since I don't believe I retained much at all.

I don't know about nursing 100 but I know the nursing 1100 is the one that we must take in order to keep being in the ADN program. I was looking at the schedule for the spring it is offered and also in the summer. Ugh I don't know when I should take the CNA.
