For me, it depended. I usually would call the LTC after a referral and talk to the primary nurse to find out the reason. If possible I would do same day evals, if it was coming in late afternoon , usually next day.

In cases where pat was hospice appropriate I would admit usually right away if pat / HCP were available and wanted to go forward. In those cases I would do the admission with recommendations right away.

Sometimes I would come in and pat appropriate but had to wait for HCP to come in and discuss - sometimes they are in quickly, sometimes it takes a day or so.

Facilities usually want somebody to come out and get the job done same day or next day. If you are slow or drag it out they will not call again or refer to somebody else.

I always had several admission packages in my car and info material so I could do an admission at any time...
