Need advice on job opportunity

I just interviewed with an agency looking for RN supervisor for twenty hours a week. It is a private duty agency (all CNA caregivers) with mostly private pay. Some managed care patients.

They are offering $25 an hour + mileage+DSL line and monthly payment+cell phone. I can do most of the paperwork from home on the computer. There is no nursing care required, just supervisory visits and new patient assessments.

There doesn't appear to be the mounds of paperwork I have read about and the manager seems to be a really nice person who really cares about the work and patients. They have aides that have been with them for years.

Does this sound like a good deal? Will I be bored??

Thanks so much for any input.

I appreciate all of you very much:kiss

Is it Kelly you met with? Private duty is nice-no oasis.

No, it was not Kelly. A small agency (thus the need for only part time, which is what I am looking for) that has been in business for eleven years. They have about 80 case load.

Yes, the paperwork looked very du-able.

What do you think??

I like private duty nursing as well, and the hha's. Only thing you have to consider is if the family is paying for it they can be rather, how shall I say, demanding or bossy.

Does part time work out good for you? Are you on call all the time or just part time? I ask that as I have worked a "part time job" LOL being on call full time. It did not work.

This is strictly a supervisory position. The visits are required every 90 days. So I would not be directly involved in patient care. (I might miss that aspect).

It is for 20 hours a week and the schedule is very flexible. I make my own schedule. Which works out well for me because I have my private practice as well. Plus I will be hooked up to the system at home and can do charting, etc from there. I would also have an office at the agency.

The nurse they are replacing had been there for 4 years (she is pregnant and will stay at home) and very rarely had to take calls (most of them were referrals or instructions to call 911).

It is more of a PR position than anything else.

What do you think?

I don't mind the demanding family (been there myself when my parents were passing, etc.) I believe everyone should have access to quality and safe care. I'm good at being present and providing what needs to be done. So that aspect is not an issue at all.

I'm just trying to get some feedback from experienced HH nurses if this would be an attractive position for them? Or if there is something I should be looking out for.

Thanks!!

Sounds to good to be true. I saw where you said supervisory visits every 90 days. Is that the AZ requirement? In Florida, regardless, if it is private pay we must do sup visits every 60 days with each recert. A certification period is 60 days.

I am not a part time person. I really think I would be bored. It depends on what you are use to doing. If you were in ICU going at 90 miles / minute -- you are going to be bored. If you are someone who wants to be challenged -- you are going to be bored.

Try to old PRO/CON thing. Divide a paper in half -- length wise -- make one column PRO and the other CON. Then, being very objective, list what is good about the job, and what is negative about the job. I think that will tell you a great deal.

Hope it works out well for you

Tom

Thanks Tom,

I appreciate the input and advice. I really don't know what the requirements are in Arizona for recert since I have not done HH before. The agency mentioned every 90 days.

That was a great idea about pro/con. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards realizing that this would not be challanging enough for me. I do like challanges and have been so used to being independent. Plus all of a sudden my private practice has taken off and things are getting busier!

I should probably take what time I have and put the energy into creating and maintaining what I do best!

I appreciate the feedback :p

One thing about agencies that staff CNA/STNA/HHA. There usually llots of issues that pop up. One thing about the part time status is are you on call full time? I have seen agencies to do to save money and you end up getting paged all the time. Do you do plans of care?

Thanks all for your replies and info.

I did not get the position and am happy the way it worked out!

I am going to pursue my own business and continue my private practice. That way I know I like the boss and what to expect!!

I was going to agree with Tom. I also had to do sup visits q 60 days, AND there were responsibilities to orient 12 hours of inservice a year. Also, if pt goes into hospital and comes back out again, and some a freq flyers, a re-assess needs to be done each time. I had a small group of 16 pt in a disability/independednt living situation, and I was kept hopping!

Also have to be wary of who is resaponsible if there is a call out for finding a replacement. It can get pretty stressful.

But, I am glad things worked out the way you wanted them too.
