Had my first HH interview yesterday

Specialties Home Health

Specializes in oncology, trauma, home health.

I drove 15 miles, without traffic, to a really bad part of town. Went in this sad, decrepid building. Found the office. Met the woman who was to interview me. She was very nice, well put together, etc. But man, the office was a dump. I would be mainly doing teaching to the 60 aides, teaching them to administer meds. "Under my lisence?" I asked. Oh yes, she said, but if I document everything I teach then there shouldn't be any legal problem. I asked about the paperwork. She found the folder I would use for new admits. Everything was photocopied, halfway on/off the paper, blurry, hard to read. I asked about mileage. 35 cents a mile. ( I read here that it should be 50) I saw a TYPEWRITER on one of the desks. She assured me that I would have a desk with a computer because again, my job would be teaching the aides and doing paperwork.

Right then one of the aides came in, trailing 4 dirty (really dirty) little kids. She was there to complain about a job that she was NOT GOING TO, on an on she went.

She gave me a huge packet to fill out if I want the job. The thought of making my career out of that gives me the heebie jeebies.

I pictured an office, questions about my nursing capabilities, job summary that had to do with patient care. Happily traveling from home to home and yes, doing the massive amounts of paperwork.

I have another interview close to home on Monday. I hope this one is better!

Thanks for reading this!

 whoa! if that place is not a active invitation for a lawsuit..what is? scary stuff. poor patients.

I know you were intuitive enough to say thanks but no thanks to this. I have never been at any agency where it was not in writing that home health aides can remind clients, but under no circumstances are they to dispense meds. Lawsuit waiting to happen. And you would be at the center of it.

Thanks for the reply. Nope, not taking that job. I sat there and had my entire education flash before my eyes. No way in hell. Like I said, I'll see how Monday goes with this other place.

Thanks for the support!
