I primarily studied from the Elsevier HESI study guide and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Nursing Entrance Exams (cheap at Half Price books!). I went through every section of both books and took the practice tests included. Between the two books, it covered everything I needed to know.

I found the Math section long.. not so much difficult, just very time consuming. The A&P was straightforward and general concepts (not details). The reading comprehension gave me the most trouble, despite the fact that I am typically an excellent English student. The guides cover what you need to know.. don't take it for granted that you already know it! I wasn't required to take the physics and chemistry sections.

The critical thinking portion is what worried me the most because I didn't know how to prepare. Really, you can't prepare. It's just based on what you would do, or how you would handle a situation. Technically there isn't a 'wrong' answer.

Good luck to those of you who are taking the test soon! The best advice I can give you, is review those study guides repeatedly!

I found the Reading Comp difficult. I also took that section first. Good job on your HESI and good luck with your application!

Congratulations on your scores!!!! If I had your scores I probably would've made it into my nursing program. I tested before and passed, but I only scored an 80 overall. Do you have any more tips on how to pass with high scores? How long did you study? Did you try to memorize certain units for math? Were you allowed to use a calculator? I'm sorry if you feel bombarded with questions lol, but I really want to get in nursing the next time around!! Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Congrats honey29! I am not the native speaker, so I am still struggling in reading section, which may be easy for you! I have a question about the reading. Do the essay come with all the questions at one time? Or the question will show one by one. I am practicing the reading skills that relates with the issue. Thanks! GOOD LUCK to all the candidates!

Wow you did really well!!! I take my HESI this Saturday. I am most concerned about Chemistry and Biology! Please let me know which study resources did you use to help with those sections?

I will take my HESI on next Wednesday. Good luck, everyone.

Thanks!

My best advice is to just go over the HESI Study guide. I found that the most helpful. I went over and carefully read each section and took the practice tests, over and again. On math, we were allowed to use a calculator and everything that's in the study guide is what we needed to know. I really didn't feel like anything was a surprise on that section, or any other section. I wish I could help more, but it all came down to knowing the material in the guide.. for me anyway.

I also found it much better to study for a short period of time, like 30 minutes.. then go do something else for a little while, then come back. It seems that I have a higher retention rate when I study in bursts.

Hope this helps!

I didn't have to take either of those sections. The study resource that helped me the most overall was the HESI study guide by elsevier. I hope your test goes well!

Good luck Charlotteng!

Thanks, honeyrose29. Do u mind to give me some advice about English part (such as reading, grammar and vocabulary). I was studying the HESI study guide, do u think its helpful? Especially in vocabulary part?
