So how does everyone deal with getting called from work on your days off ?! Just reccently i got a call from a nursing supervisor about labs that were never picked up from a couple days ago and i was told i have to call him back asap? i responded to his text and everything and cleared the issue from what i thought. I was busy anyways and told him i couldnt answer the phone. and its my day off anyways .After that he still texted me back and said "No i need you to call me back now" . So now im nervous im going to get in trouble for never calling back?! anyone else have something similar happen and how do you deal with it? I want to be proffessional but i really could not call back even if i wanted to!

I don't understand how you can text but you cannot call.

Your time off is your time off. Technically, you aren't required to be available for phone calls. But since you WERE available -- you read the text and you texted back, and your supervisor asked you to call, you should have. Yes, you may be in trouble for not calling. The professional thing to do would be to have called.

i was actually spending the day with my family, we went out to eat and i was trying on wedding dresses and looking for things for my wedding. i didnt want to even be on my phone but when i saw he called and all that i at least wanted to respond.

It is simple, if you are available answer the phone, if not don't pick it up. I would never answer the phone and say, no I am not available.

If you answer the phone, you have to deal with the situation. If you don't want to deal with any situations, simply do not answer the phone. Unless you are receiving pay for being on-call, they can not force you to answer your phone, just like any other unwanted caller can not force you to answer the phone. I learned that the hard way.
