I'm applying for UH MEPN program for Fall 2009. Has anyone heard about the program? It's fairly new but I just want to know what I'm getting myself into...lol. I know overall, nursing school is tough but would like some feedback on the MEPN program itself.

Thanks!

Hello everyone!

I just found this message board and wanted to reply. I am applying for the Fall 2011 MEPN program at UH as well. I noticed that everyone is talking about the interviews. I assume that we all received the email saying that they are sending out the denial/acceptance letters by the end of February.

I wanted to post my experience so far.. I got an interview. They called me on January 28th for an interview the following Friday which was February 5th (I believe). I spoke with two people. I am applying for the FNP/Public Health masters. The email that I got has me confused. As far as I understand it, there is only one interview per person, correct? I was confused by the wording in the email that said preliminary interviews.. Does this mean there should be a follow-up second interview? I was told during my interview that that would be the only one.. Anyone know anything about this?

To answer the above poster, I had a 3.9 gpa and am in the process of finishing all my prereqs as we speak. I have a BA in French and a BA in International Affairs.. The interview I had was 6 general questions and two interviewers. It was pretty straight-forward and fast..

It seems as though only the applicants with GPA's above 3.6 got interviews. If that's the case then they should change the minimum GPA for application to save everyone else time, money and stress.

I agree. I guess having a 4.0 in all science pre-reqs and 2 years hospital work doesn't mean anything to them, guess they just want a good overall GPA. Very disappointing. Guess it wasn't meant to be, good luck to everyone else who will be attending

I think they are looking for much than just a high gpa. Unfortunately, there are just too many qualified applicants and not enough spots. Bummer though.

Best of luck to everyone!!

I only disclosed my pre-req. GPA. My total GPA from my bachelor degrees is below 3.0! So I don't think that's a sole factor nor an early point of contention for weeding people out. Any school must mull through the actual applicants -getting variation by decimal points from year-to-year, so it's impractical to set a single decimal point, or assume mistaken inaccuracy.

That being said, I also have two bachelors in other fields. I also submitted a good resume of recent work experience (rehabilitation through yoga) with actual patients, and I submitted a copy of my program that I designed myself, utilizing yoga therapy.

So, I think they asked for a package from us, because they are looking at the totality of us and relative to the actual applicants for the semester.

I hope this perspective is helpful.

i received a phone interview and i did not have above a 3.6 GPA.

Has anyone rec'd their acceptance or denial letter? Or waitlisted? Or feedback from the school?

i received a phone call tonight saying i've been accepted and will be receiving a letter later in the week.

I received a call this evening as well! :) What program did you apply for? I applied for the FNP/Public Health track!

Congrats to those who received calls:) How exciting, I was hoping to be accepted, but I've received no word. I was hoping they would notify the rest of us via email. Anyone else received a call or notification after 2/28?

i applied for the PNP track. are you going to go??

Nikki164, Yes. It's the only program I could start in the Fall and it has the dual specialty that I want!! I am really excited about it! How about you? Are you planning on going? Where are you located, in Hawaii or on the Mainland?
