so i'm working towards applying for nursing school for spr 2012... That'll give me some time to raise my c-gpa a little bit and to retake my nln. in fact i just took my nln for the second time and got a 125 composite. however i was not able to apply for fall 2011 bc my verbal section i got a 49%tile and i needed the 50%tile on all 3 sections... verbal section is my weak point. i had a 94%tile and 85%tile math and science. it kills me because i studied so hard for verbal and yet i scored so horribly. I'm planning to take it again the third time around hoping i score better than 50%tile for the verbal section. i guess i can use my excuse-english is my second language. is there anything i can do to raise my verbal score??? I used so many books to study for the nln yet still poor score :( should i find a tutor? or should i study vocab books and such? another thing is that my c/gpa is at 2.89 right now. i'm taking two classes at UH right now hoping to get all A's and a anthro class in the summer to bring it up to 3.0. i really don't want to give up nursing school... it's something my heart is set on for a while... i believe my pre-req gpa should be around 3.6 after anthro in the summer. what are my chances of getting into nursing school for spr 2012 if my c-gpa is 3.0 and pre-req is 3.6ish and if i improve on my verbal section for nln the third time around?

@Neekodango- Wow!! you are turning in your application already?! wow i haven't even taken my NLN yet and was planning on sending my app in mid august but i should know better to send it in early!! good to know though.

@jellyish WOW! make sure you get everything in ASAP! and WALK IN(do not mail it) your Nursing Applicaiton!! once you have everything square and ready to go!

If you haven't done the system application for spring 2012(assuming you aren't a Manoa student), do that asap or at least before august because admissions told me they are still processing fall 2011 and wont' touch spring 2012 till august.

Hey Neek Dango,

How do you know that they pick the highest of the three "ALL" scores on the NLN to use in the picking of applicants?

How trustworthy is your source? This is the first I have heard of this. I'm not saying that it is a lie. I'm just curious. Actually more like a nervous wreck. I'm trying for Spring 2012. I hope I get in. Good luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!

My source is the Nursing students who frequently post here. Captainhook or Mcubed was who I first read it from. All the information that they've given so far has been accurate to which was confirmed by Brian at the nursing info session. I did go to the info session back in may/june and Brian said that they usually take in applicants who have 85 percentile in all categories...so maybe it is a new thing or just a general statement.

woooow well i am def not confident to get 85 percentile in all categories... this is breaking my heart bc no matter how much i study, i don't think i will ever get 85%tile or better in ALL categories. Maybe math and science but definitely not verbal... if nursing school at UH is not meant for me, then would UH hilo be a little easier to get into? i'm losing hope now after reading this. i hope this isn't true otherwise i'm going to have to stop trying at UH or wish for a miracle to happen. NLN is KILLING me ugh...

Well that is what Brian "said" but I still believe that they'll take the highest score in a category.

Yeah they usually take your highest score in a category, but you still have to get at least 50% in all categories. Good luck guys!! Hope to see you all next semester! I'm pretty sure NLN scores are considered before the gpa's but don't quote me on that ;)

I am applying for Spring 2012 too. I applied for both KCC and UH Manoa. I am hoping that I really get in, because this is my second time applying for UH Manoa =/ My cumulative GPA is 3.7 and my prerequisite GPA is a 3.7 or 3.8 (not really sure)...As for my NLN I have a 118 Composite score (61 Verbal, 84 Math, 57 Science). They are pretty low so I'm kind of disappointed...I am not so sure how they choose who gets in and etc, so it's just a waiting game for me. Does anyone know when acceptance & rejection letters come out for UH Manoa and KCC??

UH Manoa is in mid-late november and KCC is late October!

What were your grades/nln like when you applied to UH the first time?

Thanks for the info. Actually I applied with the same NLN scores the first time, but with a lower pre req and lower cumulative GPA =/
