  1. Did anyone apply to the AGNP?
  2. Hi all! I was wondering if any of you know anything about the MEPN program. I'm not sure if i stand a chance if my gpa isn't all that great. My stats are 3.26 cgpa and 3.6 or so on pre-req gpa. I will be graduating in the fall with a degree and hoping that my gpa will be 3.4 or so by the time i graduate. I started from a sad place 2.3 and brought it up to 3.26 so i'm really proud of how hard i worked to bring it up. I may also consider applying to the BSN program. I have tried to apply once but decided to just bring the gpa up and graduate with a bachelors in something and then try again. Once i graduate, i will have more time to study for the TEAS. I did pretty horrible on verbal section of the NLN so i'm hoping TEAS is a little bit easier. I was unable to apply to the program bc i could never get over a 50%tile and over on verbal section of NLN. Would i have a chance in getting into either of the programs? I know my GPA isn't that great but i'm hoping i can get a good score on the TEAS to make it up. Also, would it be easier to get in if i graduated already? but in another degree. I've heard once that admissions are more lenient with students that have bachelor's degree. I'm hoping that's true. Please lmk what your stats are or if you know stats of the nursing students to see if i have a shot in nursing school in the future...
  3. hey how did you improve on your verbal? that is amazing going from 49 to 79! i have no problem on science and math but verbal is very difficult for me being that english is not my first language. i got a 49 as well and it broke my heart. i struggle in english too but i'm very amazed by your improvement in verbal and wondering what workbooks you used to improve? pls give me any kind of tips. i have to take the nln again in three months. i want a score like yours.
  4. woooow well i am def not confident to get 85 percentile in all categories... this is breaking my heart bc no matter how much i study, i don't think i will ever get 85%tile or better in ALL categories. Maybe math and science but definitely not verbal... if nursing school at UH is not meant for me, then would UH hilo be a little easier to get into? i'm losing hope now after reading this. i hope this isn't true otherwise i'm going to have to stop trying at UH or wish for a miracle to happen. NLN is KILLING me ugh...
  5. @Neekodango- Wow!! you are turning in your application already?! wow i haven't even taken my NLN yet and was planning on sending my app in mid august but i should know better to send it in early!! good to know though.
  6. Hey there, My GPA is at 3.0 right now and my pre-req now is 3.55. I decided not to take summer school because i have three jobs and i cannot quit right now and i'd rather focus on studying for the NLN which comes up in August. I have not applied to nursing school yet because of my previous NLN score. I wasn't able to apply because my verbal section for NLN was a 49%tile and UH Manoa nursing requires you do apply 50% or above for all three sections. If i do well in my NLN for the third time around, i'm going to apply for spring 2012. If you want to know how UH calculates GPA, see mcubed's posts. Thanks and good luck!
  7. Thank you guys for the thoughtful advice. I do need a tutor but i just don't know where to find them? Right now i just need a tutor for improving reading comprehension for taking the NLN in August. I feel like giving up because my speaking skills aren't up to par. English is not my strong point and is my second language. I feel like i may be one of those ESL students being stalled with nursing school because of communication, writing, and speaking problems. If you guys recommend me of a good tutoring place in Hawaii for english, please let me know. I still haven't given up yet, there is hope!
  8. so i'm working towards applying for nursing school for spr 2012... That'll give me some time to raise my c-gpa a little bit and to retake my nln. in fact i just took my nln for the second time and got a 125 composite. however i was not able to apply for fall 2011 bc my verbal section i got a 49%tile and i needed the 50%tile on all 3 sections... verbal section is my weak point. i had a 94%tile and 85%tile math and science. it kills me because i studied so hard for verbal and yet i scored so horribly. I'm planning to take it again the third time around hoping i score better than 50%tile for the verbal section. i guess i can use my excuse-english is my second language. is there anything i can do to raise my verbal score??? I used so many books to study for the nln yet still poor score should i find a tutor? or should i study vocab books and such? another thing is that my c/gpa is at 2.89 right now. i'm taking two classes at UH right now hoping to get all A's and a anthro class in the summer to bring it up to 3.0. i really don't want to give up nursing school... it's something my heart is set on for a while... i believe my pre-req gpa should be around 3.6 after anthro in the summer. what are my chances of getting into nursing school for spr 2012 if my c-gpa is 3.0 and pre-req is 3.6ish and if i improve on my verbal section for nln the third time around?
  9. Well i heard it's A LOT harder to get into the KCC program no matter what... even if i have all As in all my pre-reqs and do decent on my NLN, and have a bad cgpa, don't they still look at the cgpa a little to determine who gets in or not bc of the amount of people applying? I don't mind getting into whichever program but i've been focusing on getting into the manoa program because i prefer BS degree over AS.
  10. I didn't get in and this was about a year ago. But that's ok, i am retaking the nln hoping for a higher score. I just need to do really good on the reading comprehension and vocab section. I've been trying to improve my gpa. My cum gpa is now 2.9 and pre-req gpa is about 3.5. After spring semester, i hope to get a cum gpa of 3.0 and take a class in the summer to get a even higher cum gpa for a better chance to get in. Please don't give up if this is something you really want to do. I've read many posts on this website and there are so many inspiring people out there who have similar gpa as me but worked their way out and got in. There is hope for you if you are in a similar situation as me. I've been getting A's in my classes. I've never been an A student and my last semster, i took a sociology class and got my first A+! It was a pretty easy class but i worked hard and it was very satisfying to see an A+ on the record. I'm retaking my A&P 2 for the third time to get an A. Third times the charm lol. Just believe in yourself, you can do it if you want this bad enough like i do!
  11. I think the deadline for fall 2010 is feb 1st not march 1st. I am 99% sure. I wonder how many applicants they have for fall 2010...
  12. More seats?!?!?! I am more than excited to hear that. If that's really true, then how many more people will they be accepting for fall 2010? Please, let me know if you know anything! Thank you!
  13. the school requires that you take a nursing entrance test. You may want to ask the school ur applying to which test they want u to take. They may ask you to take TEAS or NLN. But that differs in each school. You should look into ADN school also bc after getting the ADN, you can always do the ADN-BSN program which takes about a year or two to complete.
  14. hmm... Every area has their own criteria for admission into nursing school. As for my particular school, they look either at pre-req gpa or cum gpa or both, or the NLN score. So if you have taken the nursing entrance test and you scored really good, they'll just look at that and your pre-reqs and cum gpa won't matter so much anymore. But to be more competitive, you should look into retaking a&p and microbio if u got a grade lower than A. Just because your cum gpa don't look good doesn't mean u don't stand a chance. Just get a good score on the nursing entrance test and try to raise the pre-req requirement grades! i hope i helped...
  15. ahh... this class is fun! But you do have to put in a lot of time for lab reports and such. I would have suggested you take this lab in the summer time... I had to retake this lab in the summer time and most of the students in the class received an A and maybe a few B's. But i guess that really depends on the instructor and T.A. I had a fairly easy and fun TA for summer micro lab so it was an easy A for me. Oh and whatever you do... avoid T.A named Sasa! She's extremely meticulous and a difficult teacher!!
