So who else is anxious to hear back from the nursing dept!

Specializes in NCCU, STICU, SICU.

2cha12m I will be applying to both UHM and KCC for fall 2012. You can take the NLN at KCC. I took my NLN at KCC in july and took my nln again today at UH (no 6 months waiting period). You don't have to wait 6mos. to register. Call KCC and register for it. Brian Akiyama, the admission specialist, said UHM doesn't care about 6 months gap.

@cha12m

prereq-3.76 (I had all A's except two B's in anatomy and physiology)

overall gpa-3.65

NLN Composite 145

I applied to the MEPN program for Fall 2011 because I already have my bachelor's but I was wait listed.

Cha12m, Did you apply to Spring 2012 or are you applying for upcoming semesters?

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to work while attending UHM? If so, what are the normal hours of those students? I currently work at a doctor's office M-F.

Hey gocards, I'm pretty sure we're not going to be able to work a M-F kind of job. I looked at the list of classes and it looks like its Monday-Thursday with a 8:30-11:30 class and a 1-5:30 class. It varies but that looks like our schedule for the most part. I talked to a few of the nurses at my job and they said resigning is the best option especially if you have kids and I do, but for me not working is going to be difficult on my family, financially I mean. Well hopefully all of our questions get answered at the orientation... I know I've got a bunch of questions to ask. Stress already and it's only the beginning.

It is possible to work while going to school; but if you have kids, you probably won't see them. Several students work during the weekends. Some even work weekdays, too. I think if your job is at a flexible 24/7 establishment, you'd be able to put in some weekdays. However, I've also heard of people trying to cut back on their hours. I guess it really depends upon the individual. Along the way, you'll find ways to cut corners on the school workload and become more efficient.

2 Yeah, Do you know when they're letting people take the NLN again at KCC? I think I should try again... If you made alternate for Spring, i'm sure you'll get in for Fall. Lucky you! I'm still trying...

So how many applied for the Sp 2012 pool? I kinda want to know how many other students that didn't make it to Sp 2012 I have to compete with for Fall 2012. Hmm.

I didn't get in for Sp 2012 =/ Disappointed, but still trying

going2BaNurse2014 and SNSWTR, do you know what books we will be needing for the upcoming semester? I am hoping to save some money and order some online but that can take quite a while for shipping. I am sure others would be interested in the info also. going2BaNurse2014, I ended up choosing Mrs. Hodges. I was interested in going to the VA for clinicals. My second would've been Tari-Sanchez but luckily I was able to get the VA.

I just want to thank the both of you. It helps so much to be able to ask questions of those who have already been through the first semester. Mahalo!

I also got Hodges! :]

I hope to get Hodges too... Do you guys know how many spots are left for her class?

No I'm not sure I didn't ask.. but i think there's 14 spots for each teacher!

Thank you Francobeano... I'm turning in my forms next week. Hopefully there's still spots available.

jujubees1, call the bookstore about the books. Someone might be able to give you the list of books you'll need. You'll use some books a lot more than others this semester. I didn't read every book that we were required to buy. I still haven't opened a few of them. YMMV.
