  1. Congratulations on everyone getting in to the program. How exciting for all of you. I have some older edition textbooks if anyone is interested. I may have some white scrub tops and green bottoms as well. Not asking much for them. Just want them out of my house and used by others that need them. Msg me! Congrats again!
  2. I am still on a stethoscope quest. I currently have a Littmann Cardio III. Recently tried out my friend's Littmann Master Cardiology and the sound quality was a big difference for me as my hearing is not that great and seems to have declined a bit. I was all set to purchase either a Littmann Master Cardiology or the Cardiology STC when I came across the Ultrascope. Does anyone have this and what is the sound quality compared to the Littmann Master Cardiology or the Cardiology STC? thank you so much for your help.
  3. going2BaNurse2014 and SNSWTR, do you know what books we will be needing for the upcoming semester? I am hoping to save some money and order some online but that can take quite a while for shipping. I am sure others would be interested in the info also. going2BaNurse2014, I ended up choosing Mrs. Hodges. I was interested in going to the VA for clinicals. My second would've been Tari-Sanchez but luckily I was able to get the VA. I just want to thank the both of you. It helps so much to be able to ask questions of those who have already been through the first semester. Mahalo!
  4. I am just curious. What is the cost for the nursing program at KCC per semester or per year? Thank you!
  5. Congratulations gocards! Hope to finally meet everyone at orientation.
  6. SNSWTR, thanks for your encouragement and advice now and during the application process. It really helps to hear from those that have already gone through the experience. How is school going and balancing with your family? I will be in the same boat as I too have a ton of kids.
  7. Our first orientation is tentatively scheduled for December 9 and the second one is tentatively on Jan 4 or 5. I was speaking with someone I just met who is finishing up her last semester and she totally recommended asking others about professors so your help is awesome! Thank you going2BaNurse2014! I don't know anyone who is currently in the BSN program but am excited to meet everyone.
  8. Here is a website that reviews instructors: http://blog.ratemyprofessors.com/ I would definitely recommend taking the A&P classes at a CC versus UH. The classes are much smaller. I took my A&P classes at WCC. I really liked the class and learned a lot. Also maybe it would be worth it to retake the NLN? Medical terminology is a great idea as well. I am currently taking Hlth 125 at LCC and the information totally reinforces what I learned in A&P.
  9. going2BaNurse2014, thank you so much for your advice. It helps a lot. I will take the pants if you still have them. Which professors would you recommend? I haven't even thought about that yet. I am still in the process of getting through my health requirements.
  10. keala, I was able to walk in and do it but I did call them first to make sure that it was ok. There are a whole slew of requirements to be met. Mainly, they are hep B, TDaP, 2 step TB, titers, physical exam, forms, etc. I went in and checked out their scrubs. When I asked someone random at the bookstore who scanned the scrub tops for me, she said they were $29 and I think the bottoms were like $15. I was told by the nursing school office (advisor) that they were like $10-$15. I hope they are more like $10-$15 than $29. The office did say that people typically buy a couple pair of scrubs and at least 1 or 2 polos.
  11. I did receive my email already. One of the things is having a 2 step TB test done. Lanakila Health Center says that once you have done a 2 step test, you don't need to take it again just the regular one every year. But I confirmed with the person handling all of the health requirements, that we do need to have the 2 step TB test done again to meet UH SoN's health requirements regardless of what Lanakila says. I had mine done at LCC's Student Health Center. They were so helpful. All long as you are an LCC student, if you have insurance it usually doesn't cost anything or there is a small co-pay. If you don't have insurance, it costs around $12.
  12. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reasonably priced stethescopes for clinicals? I know that UH recommends the Littman Cardiology III but I don't want to spend that much at least for now. I currently have a Prestige Medical that I got when I took my CNA class. Do you think that would be sufficient? Also has anyone used Nursing Central? If you have, did you find it helpful? It is also another big cost but I have heard that it is good but I would prefer to hear from those that have actually used it while in the program. Thank you so much for your help! :)
  13. NeekoDango, Adrenergic, Swordfight and homesweethome. Don't give up! I am sure I will see you on campus soon! Congratulations! Mireille628, keala0102 and francobeano! Can't wait to meet you all next month. Have you all started on your health requirements yet?
  14. Thank you aukei04. hcs808, My stats are: pGPA: 4.0 cGPA: 3.5 NLN: Science: 93 Math: 97 Verbal: 97 I did apply to MEPN, though, for Fall 2011 and I didn't get it. I think my bachelor's GPA was too low. They didn't count my post-BA classes/grades. I was crazy with my BA and took 6 classes each semester, full load during summers and worked while doing a double major. I wish I would have paid attention to my GPA back then. I think I rushed just to finish college. Sigh... Keep trying. You will get there. Don't give up. I was so discouraged but figured I would try for UH's BSN program. :)
  15. francobeano, i got my bls at http://www.fastcprcard.com/ he also does first aid. i think it is $65 for each. i haven't done my first aid yet but i plan on going back because i remembered what he taught and the class did not take long at all. there was only one other person beside me. let me know if you plan on going because i think they give you a discount if more than 1 person goes but i am not sure.
