I moved out here as a new BSN, RN as well 3 years ago and my husband is also in the military. Since I didn't have any acute care experience, my only option was to get a nursing home job. Honestly, I wouldn't go through the hassle of getting hired in a nursing home just for a few months. To me, it's not really worth it. Plus, I'm not sure that anywhere would hire you if they knew it would only be for a few months. I would suggest just getting a waitress/retail job in the meantime or you could even try volunteering somewhere if you don't need that second income right now.
I know you said you are going to be starting work at Tripler. Have you thought about getting a contract job there as an RN before you start working there in 5 months? I currently volunteer there and we have several contract nurses on my unit. That might be an idea since it's short term.

I'm in a bit of a funky situation.
1) NEW BSN, RN
2) Here in Oahu w/ hubbs (military)
3) I am also military (nurse obviously)
4) I got 5 months to kill while I wait to start working at Tripler
I KNOW, I KNOW...NO JOBS FOR NEW RNS ACUTE CARE. My question is, are there jobs for NEW RN's for nursing homes, rehabs etc?
I only need this job for 5 months....would they even consider hiring me that short of time?
...or should I not even bother and get a waitress/retail job? I dont like doing nothing for so long is the truth.
Thanks for any insight you may have into this :) :)
