  1. What was your TEAS score for KCC?

9 members have participated

Hi All,

I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.

Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?

What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?

Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Rockinitfreshhawaii,

So the means and percentile rank that I see on the ati teas result under program is the scores for KCC program? I thought it was just the average for ALL nursing program. Would you know if this the average for the current applicants or this takes into account all

Who have taken the teas so far? Right now on mines it says mean program is 64.9. Which is pretty low. But hey no one can turn in applications anymore! I might call them again on Tuesday and see what the ati scores look like so far. Lol. They probably know my number because I call so much.

Cougar68,

I scored low also on my verbal. :-( and my lowest was the spelling and punctuation. I'm guessing a lot of people do bad on it because after sitting there staring at the screen for 3 hours most just want to get done. I think that's what happened to me and plus i ran out of time while I was going back to check the ones I was not sure of. But good luck to you both. Almost sept. hopefully it flies.

Ellers,

Does it look like this?

Mean - National: 64.3%

Mean - Program: 56.0%

The program mean is the average of the individual scores of all test takers of your program type (within a specified sample from the ATI data pool) for this assessment.

If yours says 64.9%, then that means the average went up a bit from when I took it. It could mean that people scored higher from the date that I took it (8/12/2013) to the date you took it (8/23/2013); maybe even scoring in the 80's and higher. But since you got info from the advisors that no one scored over 78 in the 8/23 test then it has to be the walk-in tests. I think that extremely higher scores would drastically change the average up from 56% to 64.9%. OR 64.9% could be the pilot cutoff that KCC implemented. Anywas, I always get different voices answering the phones when I call. Lol.

Cougar68,

I agree! If we get in, our conversations will probably about how stressful it's gonna get over the next 4 semesters, but for now, obsessing over these TEAS scores is all we have since we haven't gained acceptance into the program...yet. I really hope that the other students that applied would see this website and post their stats/scores.

Just a random question for those also applying to UHM and not currently a UHM student. Did a letter from Brian Akiyama come back stating your application is not complete because of no UHM application on file. I got the letter even though I applied to UHM and sent in my $70 online. I didnt send a receipt in my nursing package or anything stating I did this. I spoke to admissions and was told that my application is pending nursing acceptance but I am on file and I will not be refunded my $70 if not accepted. So if I am pending and nursing school throws out my application due to no UHM application, how do you apply?

I called and emailed but no response yet. Very nerve racking and frustrating over and above just the waiting.

I got that same letter the other day as well and I called admissions and they verified my application was in the system and that it was being sent to nursing that day. I did receive a receipt from the Nursing Department for the nursing specific application. I was also able to verify that all my transcripts were in the UHM system by calling admissions.

Did you do your UH system application online?

I did do the application online and I completed it in July. I got an additional letter Saturday stating "We have received your application and credentials for Spring 2014 and appreciate your interest ...".yada yada yada. So, I got a letter on Wednesday saying they didn't have my application, then Saturday I got a letter saying they got it.

Ohhh. Here I was thinking you just turned it in this last week of August. I got a letter saying they didn't receive my UH Systems app. I understand why they didn't get it because I just filled it out and paid the fee last week. I hope they don't throw out my application.

Good luck CPO1893. I hope we get to be classmates in the near future.

Manoa is a great program, according to a lot of my friends that graduated from their. From what they tell me, I believe that they gained essential knowledge to become very competent nurses. They are all in very stable RN positions, which I wish to have some time in the near future. :)

There* not their. I see why I scored so low on the TEAS grammar section. :poop:

^^^ lol. Don't feel bad.

Ellers,

Any response about the ATI scores?

I read a post on these boards saying that they got their acceptance letters in mid October. Wish it was October already. Oh boy, this wait is seriously getting to me. lol

I tried calling this morning and no advisor was available but I spoke with who ever was in the front and all she said was that usually they average about 150-250 applicants but the spring application was unusually low but she could not give me the exact numbers. And she also did not know the average ati scores for spring applications. I'm guessing not much applied because UH started accepting Ati also. And she also said that since not much people applied that letters could be out sooner as long as there are no discrepancies with any of the applications.

I hate waiting too. I'm the most impatient person ever. So lets hope it comes out late sept. lol. For some odd reason I asked her about when the letters being sent out and she said late sept. but I was, you sure cuz on the admission packet it said late oct. and that's when she explained about applications could be sent early. But I don't know. I don't want to think its coming out in sept cuz if it doesn't, I will be even more impatient. For now, I'm drowning in all my classes and enjoying so it takes my mind off this crap! Lol

CPO,

I hope everything is okay with both of our applications to UHM. We put a lot of work into getting the classes with the grades and the tests and it would be horrible to not be considered due to administrative error. I am sure you are okay though as you got the good to go letter. I never got that, I just got the "you are all good now" from Brian.

Ellers I think it looks really good for this semester for all of us regardless if its at KCC or UHM. I am kind of on the fence on which school I would like to go given a choice, as there is def some upside to getting your RN in two years vs three to gain exp/vol while getting the third year done, but its also a pain to have to pass your RN before applying for the bridge.

I am like you tho, drowning in class, stayed up till 430 last night doing calculus and looks like another late one for chem.

Coug

Ellers,

Late September would be awesome, I hope it does come out by then. It probably won't come out until October, but there's no hurt in hoping for a late September surprise. I've been watching youtube videos on dosage calculations and other tips on how to succeed in nursing school. I'm a little worried about how critical the professors will be lol.

Cougar,

I would choose KCC because of the tuition rate, but UHM has the new state of the art simulation labs. I wonder if they would let KCC students use that lab during the semester, since the KCC program graduates will eventually bridge over to for their BSN's. I've heard of very good learning experiences about the sim labs.
