Applying for UH Manoa Fall '09 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

I was just wondering but what are my chances of being accepted if my cumulative GPA is a 3.45, my pre-req is a 3.60? My composite score was a 70...

I'm taking my last required science and also Pharmacology 203 right now. Would taking the additional pharm 203 class (not required for Fall) help me?

Do I have a chance??

congrats guys!

now go get your health clearance!

Hey Y'all,

What are the new rules for application to UH in regards to the Chem 151/152 ? I think I can apply for spring if they have opted those out and I can take over lay over. It sounds like it's better at UH than KCC in regards to sheer number of applications.

Thanks,

Those changes don't go into effect until Fall of 2010. Here's the link.

How many people applied to the KCC program?

I heard last semester had a low of 125 applicants. One thing I noticed was that the competition seems a bit stiffer at KCC with 3.8 gpa. There are people on campus retaking B's to A's but have everything done. It's brutal.

I am terrified of the NLN, got advice?

Tommorrow I take the NLN and then I will know where I stand. I am terrified. I will be done with all co's and pre's this summer but all the test dates were sold out. I am flying out to Maui to take test at 8 am. Plane leaves at 5:20. It's going to be a long day but you do what you have too to get in. :icon_roll

Its so exciting to hear that everyone got into the program. I seem to be hearing horror stories and I am just too old to fart around for the next 2 years.

You have to fly to take the NLN? Jeez. For the NLN, I recommend studying. The science section covered a lot of things that I hadn't learned yet. That being said, I did a lot better on the science section than I thought I would. Overall, I ended up in the 98% for all areas combined.

So far I have all As for my pre-reqs, but I would hate to have to retake one class because of a B. Especially organic chemistry!

Oops, never mind, I suck at reading. I now see why you had to fly. And scratch that on my advice, you don't have enough time to study! Just expect questions on electricity in the science section. I think there were some questions on animals, chemistry, and physics too. But I'm sure they change the tests from year to year.

I got up after no sleep at 4:15 to catch a flight to Maui to take the nln. I am exhausted and thought it would all end after the test. I did okay with 133 composite and 93%. I now worried that this is not high enough. Does anyone know if this is competitive enough for uh or kcc? verbal 92% math 90% science 73% overall 93%.

I really don't want to take again. But if I need too, I have to register soon.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry it took so long to reply. 93 is great. I've heard they look at the science section more than the other two, but I'm not positive. Also, I don't know what the scores were for everyone who applied. I wish I could find out too. I scored in the 98th percentile. Remember, they also look at grades, especially your pre-reqs. So make sure those are good too.

About 108 or so.

Now we know... it was 225.

I was surprised when that lady said there were that much applicants...

btw, remember when we were introducing ourselves and that one guy said, "My name is ___, and I am an alcoholic." I was like 'whoa, was he just kidding or was he for real?'

Did you all pick your clinical sites?...I chose Halawa, Pohai, and Queens. Does anyone know where to park at Queens? because Michael said that it's tough looking for parking there.

I was surprised too! It's probably because of the economy. Everyone figures there will always be jobs for nurses, even though this website tells me different. And yeah, I thought the same thing. Like, dude, c'mon, we're supposed to be professionals now!

I got Kuakini, Pohai, Halawa, and Rehab. Well, we all got Halawa. I got my health clearances done kinda last minute, or I probably would've chosen QMC too. But I hear the places I chose have a lot of parking. We shall see. I'm so excited!

there's no parking at queens. if you park in the structure expect to pay A LOT. you're better off catching the bus. that's what i did this past semester and it worked out great. it's a 15 minute ride on the City Express A. much better than paying for parking or parking far away and walking. i honestly didn't understand why my classmates were so insistent on driving. maybe it's just b/c i've worked at QMC before and understand that parking during dayshift just doesn't happen. save yourself a headache and catch TheBus. it leaves UHM every 15 minutes. no biggie. $4 if you're catching it to QMC and back to campus. not a bad deal imo.
