Hello

Do any of you reservists have Tricare for health insurance?? do you have it for your self? kids? etc? how hard is it to sign up for? etc? Is it expensive? Are there limitations such as pre-existing conditions (like for example I have 17 y.o. son w/ crohn's and a 19 y.o. daughter who is a leukemia survivor who gets yearly check-ups at DFCI and sees a cardiologist for left ventricle cardiomyopathy r/t adriamycin tox.) Do you find it hard to use regarding MD/PCP visits, specialist visits??? What about eye exams, dental coverage etc?

Thanks in advance

I am a retired military member who has Tricare. It is the next best thing to sliced bread. Very easy to sign up for and very cheap (at least for me). You can go to their website and find all the info you need. You have to sign up in the part of the country where you live. You can do the application online if you wish. I downloaded the paperwork and made copies after I did it by hand. Very, very easy. They have several options for payment. As for care, I've had no problems. The people you talk to if you have to call customer service are on the ball and very courteous and helpful. Dental is separate. They offer one of the Delta plans, but it may be for retirees only, not sure about that. You can find a primary care provider online and put their name down on your membership application. Recommend you go to their website for answers to your questions.

My husband is in the Guard and right now he has been activated so we have Tricare. I can't help you with the costs because it all automatically comes out of his pay. But I have no copay for dr visits and my copays for prescriptions are pretty low too. For dental we have United Concordia. No cost for cleanings and I think it has a 20% copay for pretty much everything else. Ex. I went to the dentist (hadn't been in a long time) had a cleaning, full x-rays, 2 fillings with novocaine, etc and it cost about $45. Not bad at all. The only other thing you need to look into is does anyone around you participate? Thankfully our dr office did, but we had to do a little looking around for a dentist. Good Luck!

Here is some info for the OP, go here for a faq and tricare info...v/r
