Hello again,

Good news:

My recruiter called and said to submit a letter requesting my date of ship for AD changed and explain the reason why, (i.e. timeline for licensure suprassing OBLC date, financial hardship/student status and FNP certification completion). He also asked for a letter from my school

I signed my letter, scanned it an emailed it to him with the FNP program requirements and course outline and the dept coordinator at my school did the same just as fast!!

Since today is the 26th I imagine that this will go before the next board or so or wherever it gets sent requesting changes.

Oh and I also asked to relinquish my HPLRP and the three year service committment for it and to raise my 10K bonus to 20K with a total four year service committment.

Goodness, my recruiter must be sick of me but, gosh, had he not tried to finangle things in the first place this may not have been so drawn out. Either way, we are both learning and hopefully that is just good for both of us in the future too.

Gen-waiting now until mid March before I worry or fuss again about this.

edit....hey, I woke up, again, less than happy about the course of the conversations with my recruiter...from yesterday...

I am quick replying to myself to share here an email I just sent to my recruiter.

Sigh, yesterday he insisted that they could not change my bonus to drop it but told me that I "had" to increase it or "why" not increase it because...mumbo jumbo...Meanwhile he also told me that it didn't matter if I will be going in with one year RN experience that I will still be considered a new grad and will be precepted and start as a 2LT. I do not want to start with a large service committment as a 2LT. He also told me some more lovelies yesterday, promting my early morning email to him.

I want to waive my bonus, not double it.

You say that you cannot do that.

You also say that as an RN with one year experience that I will still come

in as a new student grad. You also told me that if I applied for AD and

didn't pass NCLEX-RN that they would ship me off as enlisted.

I do not want to incur the new student grad service obligation and start

as a 2LT with a 4-6 year active committment. I'd rather waive the bonus

and come in as a 1 year experienced RN, MS, FNP. In civilian world this

would garner an income substantially higher than an 0-1. I would prefer

not to incur the 0-1 status at the bottom of a 4-6 year service

committment.

It is time to switch me to a more experienced AMEDD recruiter.

I will wait a bit for word from you regarding this.

I do appreciate it and hope to be more tolerant/gracious about it. Just not too happy with the coersion/deceipt and being told to lie repeatedly. One would think that my failure to "lie" the first three times he told me would be a big clue for him to stop asking me and my failure to fall for his first three or four deceipts would be a clue to ease off with them.

Meanwhile it does turn out that if things with the Army do not work out that the Navy may indeed be an option, as well as AF, even though I will be over 40 at graduation.

Hoping for the best.

It's been difficult to read these boards and NOT follow your process :)--I wish you the best whatever it is you decide to do.

Sorry you've been told some "borderline truths" by your current recruiter. I would not be so bold as to imply that you are now "smearing" the character of a uniformed member as I seem to recall someone else in this forum saying when someone else broached the subject of ethical recruiter techniques/"lies." It happens, obviously. We each need to be our own best advocate through this process.

A couple of thoughts as you go forward and perhaps rescind your current contract/delayed commission w/the Army. The one year experience thing with regard to entry is pretty standard across all the nurse corps. You essentially are and still will be considered a new grad nurse at that point. FNP or no. There is some wiggle room with additional education so you may hope to broach 1LT or at least 0-1 w/ time credit towards 0-2. If point of entry is a big concern---though it didn't seem that way from following your earlier posts(last month)--you may think of working for a few years and delaying entry in order to move up rank upon entry. That's pretty much the only option there without previous service time.

Also, if another concern is when you will go to OTC, just a heads up that switching to another branch will most likely not speed that process up. All of the schools for a new nurse accession are "backed up" somewhat. You may graduate(again) next spring and still not be in school for another six months-year.

Wish you the best while you sort all out. My process took more than a year and a half for various reasons, it sure can be frustrating! I think all of us here on AllNurses will heave a great sigh of relief when you are able to complete your goal.

Hello Mab and I am grateful to read your words.

My recruiter called me today and asked me if I didn't trust him. I sincerely told him that it wasn't necessarily that I didn't trust him but that I understood my situation was extenuating, (he said, yes, unique) I told him that since he is new to AMEDD and AD that I just didn't feel secure with the way things were going.

We spoke and he asked if I would to speak to his supervisor I said okay. When his supervisor got in he said that he wished we spoke sooner, yet, I didn't criticize my recruiter to him. I mentioned that I knew he was new to AMEDD and that as a pre-nurse that I understand things are in the air.

I told him that the main reason I wanted the extension was because I would not be in this fall and that the primary/secondary reasons were for income/funding and to continue my education.

The supervisor said that I most likely could go this fall...sigh...I understand though that my recruiter was telling me the truth, that unless I pass NCLEX and have my license in hand...yet, the supervisor said that I might be able to go to OBLC with the 'results' in hand or something...iffish.

Oh boy, what drama.

Thanks for saying that the year won't really make a difference, that helps to know, and in all reality I could go for the FNP after the service committment.

I am going to try to keep my commission and see how it goes, without worrying about things in the meanwhile. I do need to pay my rent until January though and would like to maintain my student status so, maybe I can indeed do that.

I wonder if it was also communication style as well as him being used to being an enlisted reserve recruiter that were causing stress. One thing though, it is not personal.
