A sense of military nursing careers

Hi,

I am a nursing student in the Army. They are training me to become an LPN and I have the option of earning a BSN, too. It is incredible to me, because I do not understand how it is possible. I have not considered becoming an officer someday, and I wondered if other Active duty Army nurses have chosen to take the Bachelor of Science in Nursing option through a college.

:smokin: Do most of you know anyone who went to school part time? I just do not understand why it seems untrue- I'm sure that by tomorrow, I will have a contract that gives me just what I need to become an LPN. I have to impress a lot of people to get into the Commissioned Officer training.

Have any of you survived this path? I will find it helpful to hear back...how did you feel peers behaved toward others competing for the same opportunities? Nursing seems like a great career with possibilities to learn more every year. In a sense, doing what I've done with myself will give back a great military nursing career. What is the best negotiating tool to take to a recruiter?

I have good news. I am going to begin my LPN training this October. I have had the luck of meeting a knowledgable and hard working recruiter that has helped me with negotiating my contract. We found a contract that is enviable!

It took months for this to happen, so I should thank my local Army recruiters for doing their best at the Catalina Army Recruitment office in Tucson, AZ. We persevered! :p

I plan to pursue the BSN next. How many of you have applied to AMEDD? Can you tell me what the enlisted soldier's experience in doing so was like? I would like to learn from others what they felt I would like to know.

Congrats on the 91WM6 contract! LVNs are a great asset in the AMEDD & you will gain more experience in the Army on active duty as a 91WM6 than if you were an LVN in the civilian community.

Ask your recruiter to set up access for you to have AKO internet access as a guest. Then, you can visit the AKO AMEDD related forum section and post up the same question regards to the LVN-RN [bSN] route. I see a lot of 91WM6 related Threads on the AKO forums. I was a direct commission, therefore unable to answer your question. However, I am currently in the AMEDD CCNC [critical care nursing course] and very impressed with the program.
