I am prior service enlisted and I am an ADN nurse. I am currently attending Marshall University's RN to BSN program on the Post 911 GI Bill and hope to be finished this fall. My question is can I receive the STRAP being prior service even though I exhausted my GI bill? Also is the Reserves offering the STRAP in this budget cutting environment? Finally is the stipend tax free?

STRAP is still listed here: Undergraduate Health Care Education | GoArmy.com

Your best bet is to contact a healthcare recruiter who can answer your questions. Good luck!

Yes you can use STRAP for school and use it in combination with your GI Bill. Depends on which branch you talk to about STRAP. When I applied it was not available, but then became available six months later. It all depends on funding and the needs of the military. Your stipend is not taxed by the feds, but state tax is withheld.

Thanks that clears up a lot. I don't have any student loan debt so does it make it more likely to get strap?
