Military Police to Nursing...
I used the Post 911 GI Bill for my undergraduate degree. It is a great program that allowed me to graduate debt free. Be aware though that initial processing times take forever. As example I first applied in August and received a back pay check for tuition and housing in December. I used the program while getting my ADN and they were always late and I had to pay tuition out of pocket and then I was reimbursed. Once I switched to my local university though they waived the tuition and allowed me to attend classes while they waited for payment. I know several vets that had to drop from school because of the inability to pay the tuition and couldn't wait for the housing allowance. This is a great program that you earned they are just very slow and not helpful or understanding when you call. My heart aches for the troops who cannot attend or have to drop bc the government or schools ineptitude.

Is there really a Nursing shortage, or is it just hype ?
What area do you live? southern West Virginia Is it having a Nursing shortage or an abundance? Shortage in a lot of areas with pockets of abundance in certain areas. If you are having a shortage what incentives are being offered to new employees? Sign on bonuses of $5000. Are facilities increasing their pay? I wish. We are still very low paid in comparison to the rest of the country. If you are having an over abundance, have you noticed a difference in how facilities treat their employees? They are equal opportunity, they treat everyone like crap. If you are not employed, how long have you been looking? Most new graduates have little problem finding a position but I have noticed that they are hiring less new graduates and are BSN preferred . Thank You All For Your Time :)

So they shouldn't be comfortable?- Giving Morphine
I think that if they were hospice and it was a scheduled dose you should have given it. Once a chronically ill patient is in pain it is twice as hard to get them out of pain. Just my opinion though- Marshall University rn-bsn
All the nursing classes are online but the University limits the amount of credits you can transfer. I would check out Ohio University. They are online and cheaper plus classes are 5 weeks long.- Marshall University rn-bsn
I am in my last semester of my RN to BSN through Marshall. I really love the school and the program but be warned a lot of the classes are gonna have to be done on site. If you do not have stats, speech, sociology, microbiology with a lab component, chemistry, and a couple of art classes you will have to take those. This program is very rigorous and requires that you do tons of clinicals in your community. I don't know where you but I live local which makes it easier for me to keep in touch with my professors. I say good luck because this is a great program with great professors and it's really reasonably priced.- Just Got Denied at VA for New Grad Program
Seriously you need some help! I was active duty Army 11b and I was in Iraq as well. How dare you degrade someone's service? To me there is little doubt why you weren't selected bc you have a terrible attitude. It is offensive on so many levels. I just started working at the VA and I am also an ADN but I am in the end of my BSN. It took me over a year of trying. They hire the most qualified not the most entitled! So straighten up soldier and remove your foot from your mouth!- Cry baby CNAs
I worked in an ultra busy ICU and we had 1 CNA for 8 pt.s. They only had to bath half of the patients and assist us with turns. Of all of the CNAs we had only one was a good worker. They all had bad attitudes and the poor me syndrome. They were constantly going to smoke, taking 1 hour long lunches, and basically hiding from us. They treated our patients poorly and had little regard for our lines when turning. It got to the point that we told out director that if she couldn't get them to do any better then fire them and we would work without them. I left that position in part of being sick of dealing with lazy people. I have moved on to another hospital that utilizes externs and no CNA's and I am much happier bc these people want to be there.- Cursed at a patient-fired
OP, I would have fired you also. Never use food as a weapon. This child may never trust another nurse.- Bad Job Market? Be a NURSE! (Insert eye roll here)
This kind of thread really gets on my nerves. It's more bellyaching and complaining that other people have the audacity to become a nurse. What would you have thought if people had gone through these lengths to discourage you? I know in SOME areas of the country there isn't a nursing shortage but in others it's a very real fact of life. This type of thread comes off as being whiny that you may have to compete for a job. To the poster who thinks that they deserve a job ahead of another nurse because it is your "calling" grow up! Rant over lol- Joining.
Just as information. I spoke with a recruiter today and was informed that the Army is now requiring all nurses to have at least 2 years experience prior to joining. I have the time I just wanted to pass it along.- chance at va
I applied several times and wasn't selected. I finally just called the nurse recruiter to see if she could see anything wrong with my packet and she set me up an interview. My advice is to call after you put your resume on USA jobs and speak with the recruiter.- Joining.
1 year MICU/SICU and 1 year OHRU. I am studying for my CCRN now.- Joining.
Hey all, I am a prior service enlisted soldier who will be completing my RN to BSN this fall. My question is when should I start the commissioning process? Will I be able to start the process before I graduate? Is the Army still offering incentives to nurses? - Giving Morphine
