Here's the deal I have asked at my unit and am getting conflicting info. I have to get my ASU's and am not sure what ribbon/s. Reserve only, never been active/deployed, completed OBLC. Do I wear the unit crest? Please help a butter bar, I don't want to look jacked up.

That's the problem, I have no idea. I have looked on OMPF, but can't find any info. I am supposed to have one or two "thanks for coming" but I keep getting conflicting info. Any help is appreciated.

They should be listed in your service record if you're authorized to wear them. If they're not there, you can't wear them. If you have a copy of the award (the paper they have when ribbon is presented) then you can wear it, but it needs to be added to your service record.

Everyone should be awared a National Defense Ribbon, other then that I do not know of any thanks for coming ribbons. Like rghbsn stated unless you have a copy of the award or its in our record you can not wear it. Have you checked "myrecord" at HRC also? I have found some awards there that where not listed in my OMPF.

Look in AR 670 for info on where to place the unit crest on the jacket. Use these as a learning tool, ask others what should be, but then you look up the regulation, etc. yourself so you know the right answer. Do take the answer of "we always do it that way" etc., ask to see the regulation if it doesn't sound right. By looking up the answer yourself it will make you a better officer in the long run. Your soldiers will appericate it knowing that they can go to you and you will have the right answer or know where to send them to find it.

If you completed OBLC than you are able to wear that particular ribbon on your Class A's. Sometimes it takes a good long while before your awards are part of your ORB, but as rghbsn stated as long as you have a copy of the paperwork you are good to go (but make sure you hand in a copy to your S1)

If you can get yourself over to a MCSS (Military Clothing Supply store) you can see some examples of what your Class A's should look like. If they don't have a physical model then they should have a large binder. Or just ask. I have found that they are pretty much experts. You need to have your Class A's in perfect order before you have your DA picture taken, as well. There is a kit that is sold that has a ruler and a small book regarding exactly where on your Class A's your rank, name pin etc goes

Speak to your unit S-1 if you have an questions. He/she should be able to access your permanent records through HRC to check what awards you have. However, in your case, if you have not deployed, were recently commissioned, and have completed OBLC, and have not received any commendatory medals then you should have the following:

1. Army Service Ribbon

2. National Defense Service Medal

If you have completed three years of service in the reserves, then you are eligible for the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (basically a good conduct medal for reservists). As the other forum members have stated, if you don't have proof of the award, you can't wear it. I would recommend creating your own military records at home. Make copies of any awards you receive down the road. Scanning them into an electronic format is also useful (you can email the awards to a promotion board in the future). Take ownership of your military career. While your unit staff can be helpful, in the end, you are the only one who can ensure that you have all your paperwork that is necessary. That's just the Army. It's a big green machine and stuff will get lost if you don't stay on top of it. Now as for the rest of your uniform needs, you can google Army Service Uniform and find the official Army website that will explain how to set up your uniform. Also, as JeckRN has pointed out, look up AR 670-1. This is the official regulation that states exactly how and where items should be on your uniform.
