Navy Nurse Candidate Program

Just finished my freshman year of college. I am accepted into the Nursing program at my school and have a 3.45 GPA as well as lots of extracurriculars. I tried for NROTC in high school but didn't get it, but still want to pursue a Navy career. I have leadership experience in my sorority as well as high school. I am in good shape and have some experience in first aid.

I have a close friend who said she can get me letters of recommendations from a Garrison Commander CSM at Fort Lewis and an Army Colonel who was a commander of Fort Carson as well as an Admiral on my mother's side of the family, will these help or will they seem disingenuous?

I go to a school with a Navy presence in FL, but live in IN with my family, so also a bit confused as to where I should get in contact with a Navy Recruiter?

What do I need to do to make my application stand out and when should I start applying?

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

You need to get your GPA up — military nursing is just so competitive these days, and that is one thing they really consider. There may be a 3.5 GPA minimum, I'm not sure (maybe that was Air Force?). Does your school not have NROTC? That would be helpful.

If you are going to be seeking commission via the Nurse Candidate Program (NCP), you should contact a recruiter as soon as you can. I would contact one near your school. Link is here: Locate a US Navy Recruiter : Navy.com

Just an update: I was selected for the program in November of '17! I was sworn in January '18 and will commission May '18!

Congrats. What GPA did you have when they accepted you into NCP ?
