Hi, was wondering if anyone could tell me if the VA is really hiring for LPN's.

I have looked on the USA jobs website, and there are a lot of openings, but I was wonderng if it takes

the VA a long time to hire an applicant.

Again, I am an LPN.

thanks!

I follow the openings at the VA near me (just in case! :)), and I see LPN openings now and then -- not as many as for RNs, but they're there.

The hiring process at the VA is incredibly slow -- it can take months to find out if you're being offered the job, and then weeks or even months longer before you actually start working.

it doesnt always take that long. i can tell you how it worked for me. saw it on usa jobs and called the hr department of the facility directly. though the job description said to send the app to new orleans, they told me just to bring it in to them. that alone saves a few weeks. they interviewed me within 1 week and offered the job as i drove home from the interview. that being said, the background check and credentialing verification took about 2 weeks, mostly because i didnt have any professional references (new grad lpn). in the end they accepted my instructors as references. so all told, about 1 month from app to orientation. id like to think it was because i interview well, but more likely they needed someone badly. i went to a medsurg floor btw, but was considered for cardiac also. point being they consider lpns for a few different scenarios. im a rn now and still at the same floor. good times. not sure if this holds for every facility, but it does for at least one! also, they should be posting jobs somewhere in the facility. not sure if they are open to the public, but might be worth a look. not everything may be on usa jobs. good luck.
