Husband is a police officer, worried about ease/difficulty finding jobs if I go AF

Anyone have this specific experience? Is it easier for him to get on somewhere with me being AF or would it be harder due to moves, etc. That is his biggest worry b/c he wants to stay police. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have ya'll considered your husband going into the Security Forces in the USAF? Then, maybe the two of you could get stationed PCS together? Seems to me it would be feasible.

Be careful if you both join. Its not a guaranteed thing that you will be stationed together. Hubby and I were in the military when we got married and were not stationed together - not even in the same country. Its a true crapshoot as to whether you luck out or not.

traumaRUs - What was your MOS & husband's?

Your right, no guarantees regards to husband/wife both stationed at same place. However, it may be nearly as difficult for the OP. IMHO, could be difficult her husband gaining civilian law enforcement work if the OP changes PCS duty station every three years, or so. Its a hard call either way. :uhoh3:

Well, my biggest concern would be for us getting deployed at the same time or something crazy like that...we have 2 young children (5 & 9). And what if we don't get stationed together? And what if I go to school and he has to go somewhere else? AND AND AND : ) Plus I think he is too old to join...he is 35...

I don't think he will take it too good if he can't be police and now I am worried that he won't want me to go AF. POOP

BTW...what is OP?

OH BOY I KNOW THAT IS RIGHT. Prior dual military here and believe me, your needs/desires to stay together mean zip if USAF needs supercede them. Unless you don't mind lengthy separations and have really dependable long-term child care (if you have kids) as well as a good will, don't do it.

Yea, I can see how having young children would not be a good mix with both of you being active duty, or even one being in the reserves, and the other on active duty.

My wife and I are both active duty in the Navy, however we are both nurses. The navy will station us within a 50 mile radius of each other, easier to be stationed together because we are both nurses. If you are doing different jobs, I wouldn't even try it.

LT Dan - I'm just curious... if one of you get assigned to a ship, then is it automatic the other spouse will have the assignment?

And...the military doesn't really want people enlisting or coming to active duty if they have children. When our oldest son was born (1980), we had to have papers including POA drawn up stating who would have custody of our son if both of us were deployed. It was gut-wrenching, to say the least.

BTW Corvette Guy - we were the dumbest of all couples - I was in the Navy (broadcast journalist) and hubby was in the Air Force (also broadcase journalist). So...keep love in the service is what I came away with! lol (I can laugh at it now, many years later, but it wasn't too funny when he was 4 months old and I got orders to a ship).

inter-service love in the military :roll ... that is what I call rivalry among the services taken to the extreme. ;)
