Civilian nurse at military hospital?

Specialties Government

Published

I was wondering if any of you knew if military hospitals ever hired civilian nurses? If so who or what agency do I need to go through? Does it help that my husband is military? We are being stationed to Bangor, WA and there is a Naval hospital in Bremerton. I only have 4 months pediatric experience so I am pretty much coming in as a new grad. Do they usually have a good preceptorship program?

Thanks for any advice,

Megan

Hello RN2b

I know for a fact that the Army hires GS and contract nurses to staff all its Army MEDCEN. If you are looking to work in a a medical facility (ARMY) then write an email - subject matter: Army Nurse Civilian Jobs - to

Athena...I sent an email to that address and it came back undeliverable.

What is GS-13? Is that the highest level an RN can get promoted to? Is the 82-102K range what it tops out at?

I have no idea....

Actually looking at actual posted jobs for military nurses (just like civilian nurses) the high and low amounts vary greatly.

Here at Ft. bragg Womack AMC has a recruiter at the hospital. Maybe you could contact hr at the hospital you're interested in and go from there.

I was wondering what the process looks like for getting a job overseas as a US nurse. If I am married to a USAF soldier stationed overseas will I be able to get a job there? We don't know where he'll be stationed yet but I'm trying to do some research early.
