Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I know two people at DDEMC (pronounced "diddy-mac," LOL) in the ICU, and they enjoy it and are awesome peeps. One of my coworkers worked on a post-surgical floor at DDEMC prior to coming to Ft. Stewart, and she loved it there. I hope you love it, too! I wouldn't mind working there next. I don't want to leave the GA sunshine!!

. U ladies enjoy your sunshine, we get to move from Jacksonville, FL with our rivers and beaches and things to do, and head to Lawton OK. Where the have sand, and "a" tree. My wifes hometown is Augusta GA, you will like it there.
Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.

When I was looking at Ft Gordon and housing it appeared that the housing was nicer in South Carolina then Georgia. From what I understand the taxes are also less, not that they are high in Georgia.

Lunah, my wife is most likely heading to stewart to the clothing and sales, are they usually pretty stocked there with uniforms, and do the carry the Nike SFB. Her uniforms are on the tiny side.

They do not have some smaller sizes at Ft. Stewart. Ugh. I wear x-small/short ACU tops, and the clothing sales personnel informed me that they'd have to special order those from Ft. Hood. Of course, me being a smarty-pants, I asked if that's where the midget brigade was... they were not amused. Haha. I wear small/x-short pants, and they do carry those. She might want to call them before driving all the way up: (912) 368-4572. They don't carry the Nike SFB -- I ordered mine from Nike for $130, then found out they carried them at the Exchange Online (The Exchange) for $99. LOL.

Edited to add: the price at the Exchange Online has gone up to $109, but you can usually get a weekly coupon for a percentage off. Still a good deal.

Yes, there is Wi-Fi there as well as direct connect internet. No you don't need a wireless card and you will have a roomate. The rooms look like hotel rooms from the Pics I have seen.

Has your wife mentioned anything about what the deal is with internet at BOLC? Pretty much do you know if it is supplied in all the rooms, or if we have to bring our own wireless cards?

Thanks!!!

The rooms look like hotel rooms and there is both wi fi and direct connect in all rooms.

Since BOLC is less than a month away, my husband and I are trying to make travel plans. I think we are going to drive out to Texas, and than my husband is going to take a plane home. Does anyone know what we do on the first day (the report date)? Would I have enough free time, to check-in, and than drop my husband off at the airport on the 28th, or should we get his flight for the 27th?

On your report day you will not do much. As mentioned before show up in PTs because you will be sent to change into them. The ASU inspections come pretty quickly so make sure that you have them ready. You will be assigned a room at housing then fill out some paperwork and conduct a roll call where you will find out what platoon you are in.

Thanks bro, so the report uniform is definitely PT's. Just short and t shirt? And the ASU inspection is on what do. I am sure they give them enough time to get to a tailor though right?

They missed 6 months worth of Constructive Credit for my wife. Her CMSRN certification was lost in the sauce somewhere. Was able to get it scanned and sent to LTC W. Hopefully they can adjust this before everything is done. Would suck to lose that much time.

My credit for my CEN was lost. I appealed it and never got it. :-(

The rooms at 592 (main lodging) are a little nicer than those at 1384. I was at 1384. You'll have a roommate, share a pretty small bathroom, and you each have a wall locker, a short cabinet thing with two drawers, and a desk. There is a little kitchenette with a microwave, small fridge, and a sink. I became the master of microwave meals for the times that we didn't go to the DFAC. I bought pre-cooked grilled chicken breast, cheese, and wraps. Mmmmm, good! You can also make a breakfast burrito the same way with egg beaters -- yes, you can microwave those as well.

The beds in 1384 are small -- they're tall twin beds with plenty of space underneath for storage. It wasn't bad, overall. But the last night we were there, I woke up to my roommate shaking me awake and telling me to get out of the bed to the right, slowly ... because there was a ginormous cockroach on the covers on the left side. AAAAAHHHHHHHH!! So glad that sucker didn't show up until the last night!

Good times. :D

That is not very encouraging. I really hope they fix this
