Can someone please tell the age limit for nurses in the navy and air force? I turn 41 in a couple of days here.

Last year i heard from the Air Force, and the age on the app was 51. Check with recruiters...

I agree, the best resource would be an officer recruiter. I remember hearing that the Navy will do 45 with an appropriate waiver.

Ex Army here. When I got out of the Army, the age limit for newly commissioned active duty RNs was 47. Things may have changed. Even if they did, you're still ok. The military is a great place to practice nursing! You should enjoy!!!!!! Have a great day all.

Hello. I got this information from the Navy's OPNAV INSTRUCTION 1120.7 (APPOINTMENT OF REGULAR AND RESERVE OFFICERS IN THE NURSE CORPS OF THE NAVY). I hope this helps. FNEAC98

"The basic entry age standard for appointment in the Regular Navy is that the applicant be able to attain 20 years of active commissioned service before their 62 birthday. The basic entry age standard for appointment in the Reserve component of the NC is that the applicant be able to attain 20 years of active commissioned service by age 55."

I am 45...

Since I have spoken to them all (this may not mean it couldn't be different for you)....

1) NAVY: 45 is too old (and that's their exact words) for the most part so is 36. I was told the Navy wants you in by 35 at so you can retire by 55 or at least have your 20 by that age?!?

2) Air Force: Site states 47. Recruiter told me 54!

3) Army: 47: Person from site said don't worry?!?!

For the most part from my conversations: Army = waiver, Air Force = maybe waiver, Navy = look some place else...

I am in the process of applying for the Navy Nurse Corp. I am 39 and they told me the age limit was 42 but they would subtract my prior sevice years from my age. I hope it all goes through. I cant wait to be a military nurse.

Any suggestions on whether or not to stay on top of my recruiter or would it be better to let him take his time?

One thing to remember when considering the military at an age over 42 is that (at least for the Army) Mandatory retirement age is 62. Like JD said you can get a waiver to still join after that, but if you are unable to reach 20 years of military service by age 62... you may not be eligible for retirement benefits, which is a big factor in the overall compensation package.

Hi and if I may add to what la40 posted.....

IF you are in a MOS that is a "critical-need" such as 66H8A (critical care nurse) you could obtain an age waiver to stay in up to and including 68 years of age....Of course all depends on the needs of the Army at that time, and how one is at the age of 68 (physically and mentally)

I had asked that very question because I entered Army Life late in life. Received an age waiver to join the USARNC, then "went over to the dark side":D and went to the Active side of the house. I knew that I would not make the fully twenty years/62 years of age retirement gig...but then some one from BG Pollock's office actually wrote me back! and stated the above. If I can find the actual email I will attach it.

You know, when I was at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center the buzz on post was that a 72 year old Reservist (AN) was coming on board for six months, but I never got a chance to meet her as it was the same day that Laura Bush was arriving and the MPs and SP were swarming the post.

Athena, I did not realize this...great news for some of us Old Farts!:clown:

All I knew was from I heard others say, that when they went in they had to sign a statement detailing the fact that they would not meet the retirement age/years in service requirements and would forfeit those benefits...yikes!

I will be 42 when/if I am able to go active duty... I will just make my 20 years commissioned service, but would love to be able to "tack on" a few extra years for the retirement benefits... with this information, maybe I will be able to. (Although I do have 6 years prior enlisted service, so I shouldn't have any issues with an age conflict *crass fingers*

you can join the navy up to 47 as a nurse. get in contact with a navy recruiter.
