6 Months Experience As A R.N. Needed Prior To Being Accepted For Army Reserve STRAP

My package was approved for the September 8th board; however, I was denied an offer for commissioning because I did not have six months experience as a Registered Nurse.

I was told I needed to be working 30 hours per week for six months before I would be eligible for the BSN-STRAP.

My package was not approved for the October 20th board because of the aforementioned reason as well.

Has anyone else ever run into this before? My recruiter and I read the Army regulation 601-37, Chapter 22 from head to toe; however, a policy letter dated August (a month prior to my September package approval) stating that future applicants were required to be working 30 hours per week as a R.N. to be eligible for commissioning into the STRAP.

Thanks in advance.

Don't know anything about it, but just wanted to offer my condolences. That sucks. Hope you can get it squared away and keep us posted.

I am in the early stages of try to commission for the Nurse Corp. Reserve (PE at W. Reed next week) and just started my nursing career in Aug. This is discouraging news as I have worked part-time for less then two months. How does this affect your commissioning? Are you put on hold until you meet the criteria? I wanted to use the STRAP for an RN-BSN program also.

Are you saying that both your commissioning and your eligibility for the STRAP progam was denied? It is my understanding that you do not need 6 months of experience to commisiion but it is a requirement for accepance into the STRAP program.

I hope this is not the case. I am currently a registered nurse with almost 3 months fulltime work experience. My recruiter who is a army healthcare recruiter did not give me this information nor is it in any of the information I have either read or researched. My packet is due to go up to board in the next month and I will not be submitting it if I have nothing in my packet that states APPROVAL FOR STRAP PROGRAM. I heard it is difficult to get the program once you are assigned to an actual reserve unit. So thanks for the heads up I will be contacting my recruiter tomorrow and putting my packet on HOLD until I get the 6 months experience required.

Thanks for the INFORMATION!!!

DIC have you heard anything else about this? I was approved by the board but had to resend the scroll to the Senate and am awaiting approval from them. My recruiter hasn't said anything to me about this new law. Any info you have I would appreciate.
