Pet peeve of the day:

A+O residents who either flat out make up stories about things staff does to them OR,

in my case, don't exactly make the whole story up, just TWIST it.

Why do they do this??? Is it boredom?? Is it, trying to store up ammo to build a case

against the facility??

This woman is 60 years old, has flat out admitted that the only reason she's in a nursing

home is because she is lazy.... she doesn't even LOOK sixty, looks about twenty years

younger. Her problems include morbid obesity, DM, and heart disease. But none of that

matters really...

Why do residents do what she did?? I don't get it. Plus, she apparently reported this incident about a WEEK after it happened.

It's a power thing. Adults in LTC are in an utterly dependent position. Getting us in trouble is one of the few powers they possess over us. They do it for the same reasons they push a call light 30 seconds after you leave the room. Or how they b**** endlessly about the last shift to the next one.

When I first started I had a totally lucid resident tell me I didn't need to do his dressing cause the wound nurse had "just made her rounds and already done it". The next day I find out it had been the wound nurse's day off and hetold anyone who would listen that I had refused to do his tx. And it was an important daily wet to dry on a fresh toe amputation. I was stunned anyone would flat out lie like this. I don't necessarily think it's boredom or "storing up ammo", I think some residents resent being so helpless and controlled, so they cling at whatever kind of power over people they can.

With nothing better to occupy her mind and time, she came up with this. Will probably come up with some other doozies as long as she is a resident there.

Very good post, and it makes sense. Thank you. =)

The good thing is that you do learn who to be extra careful around...
