i saw on the news that george bush is trying to pass the bill to protect doctors from lawsuit and put limitations on patients trying to sue doctors for malpractice. does it also include nurses?

Specializes in Critical Care/ICU.

It's called tort reform and I would imagine that it would affect nurses as well.

Specializes in Education, Acute, Med/Surg, Tele, etc.

OH sheesh, I don't hold my breath that nurses are considered for anything unless nurses actually speak up for themselves in regards to this. People say "doctors and nurses" in the same sentences...but yeah, whom are they thinking about...the docs!

Unless nurses speak up for themselves and remind our own government that nurses, (and other areas too like NP, PA and the like) should be included and considered in issues such as this..they proably won't give it a second thought!

Just my two cents by seeing through the RN eyes for a while...

Did you notice in the pres debates (I am far from political but I watched those), they mentioned Doctor's and Nurses in this regard...then went right for Doc malpractice suits and doc issues like ob/gyn docs leaving the profession and so on..then straight on to everyone needing health care...not one mention of a 'nursing shortage' or where they were going to get nurses and additional health care folks to handle everyone...or even covering nurses for malpractice lawsuits. We are mentioned in one sentence with the word doctors before it...but not considered at all!

The only times nurses are considered for something is when a group speaks up and reminds folks! And we need to keep that faith and speak up!!!!!
