Hi,

If you're a Nursing Aide what are your duties at your LTC facility? I start work in an LTC unit on monday.(i've worked as an aide previously, but only casual in homecare, never in an actual facility).

Thank you in advance. :)

I'm still in school, but I took the CNA course and did our lab work at a LTC facility. The main duties would include; feeding, bathing, changing their briefs or helping them to the bathroom. The basics of ADL.

Pretty much as Kristy described. Some facilities do a meds course for NA's and then they do supps and the odd topical med.

Bathing, lifts, transfers, and bed making will more than fill a shift. Assist the LPN with her lifts and transfers because most LPN's have a care assignment on top of the meds, wound care, etc.

Word of advice there always seems to be a NA clique and they can be hard on the new NA, especially if they find out you are in school.

I had a friend who got a job in a facility where she had practicuum experience to be told " I didn't like you as a student, don't even try to be my boss". Someone forgot to let that NA know that there is no I in team.
