I've just accepted a job at a ALF in Az., it came highly recommended by a friend who works there. My question is, since I am the only R.N. (my boss is an LPN) in the facility, does she work under my license? What about the med techs? Yes, I should of checked this out more thoroughly but when I asked my boss she said they would not be under my license. What do you think? Thanks for any advice. .

I think I don't trust any manager who tells me not to worry . In most situations, the person with the highest degree of licensure is ultimately held responsible for those who work under her, whether they do so directly, or in name only.
If something went wrong, you'd be the one hung.
I'd check with your state's BON. Good luck!

I don't know about your state but in Pennsylvania LPNs have a "dependent" license, meaning they are supposed to be under the "direct supervision of a Registered Nurse" . Now mind you, in the 6 years I worked as an LPN I NEVER had the RN "check" my work, but by law her license was on the line too. Do a web search for your states BON and find out.
Thanks for the info. I called the BON and am waiting for a callback with the answer although I think I already know what it will be. The money is really bad much less that I'm use to but the working conditions are much nicer so it's a trade off, I guess.
