So very common in the LTC setting. Tonite when I go to work I am going to look up the latest P & P. I say latests, because it changes so often...or does it?

What do you do for these folks?

C diff...we try to group together, but not always happens. Bed side commode and regular contact precautions.

MRSA/ VRE of urine or wound......room with another resident with the same dx. Regular contact precautions...no isolation.

MRSA Pneumonias....they did do private room. Staff wearing masks. If resident leaves room...wear mask. When should this be D/C'd? Does it matter if they cough or not?

Specializes in Hem/Onc, LTC, AL, Homecare, Mgmt, Psych.

It has been a couple years since there was respiratory MRSA in the LTC I work at, but I remember a repeat culture had to come back negative to d/c the precautions.... I think.

for c-diff and mrsa/vre, are you talking about contact precautions, or universal precautions?

the 2 are different, and contact precautions are isolation, even if you are co-horting patients with the same diagnosis. anyone going into these rooms should gown and glove.

Specializes in LTC, med/surg, hospice.

CDiff...at one facility we had contact precautions and the rooms were all single rooms

..other facility, universal precautions and they shared rooms..it's a wonder people didn't get sick. there were no staff alerts

MRSA..contact precautions/single rooms at one facility

..other facility, prob. universal precautions and they wouldn't even make it known to staff res. had MRSA
