I'm a RN and my job will be eliminated in about 6 months, no one is hiring RNs but LPN is in demand, I wonder if I should take the NCLEX for LPN? I want work. Is this idea too drastic?

No point in doing that when employers can hire you into an LPN position with an RN license. If it is that bad, you should consider relocating.

And BTW, many LPN's would take offense at the title of your thread. If that is your opinion, you should probably rethink your idea to seek LPN work.

Kaiser will not hire RN as LPN unless they have LPN license.

Taking NCLEX for LPN would be lead to a steady job...so it shouldn't be out of the question, I don't have much choice and I have 6 months to study.

If you want to work for Kaiser, then get the LPN license. You can always revert it to inactive down the road should you not need it.

Does your state allow those who haven't completed an LPN program to sit for NCLEX-PN? You might want to double check that before you make any decisions. I know that my state doesn't let anyone sit for NCLEX-PN unless they are a graduate of an LPN program- no partial completion of RN program, no completion of RN program, no challenging, no other option. Additionally, if you hold an RN license, the BON is going to hold you to the standards of that RN license regardless of the job you hold.

Years ago I got my LPN license and worked for one year as a LPN..that should count for something. As for as being held to RN standards....well that's cool with me

Yeah, not so cool while you're working & being paid as an LVN.

Chances are low for having a scope of practice problem. Better to be paid LPN rate of pay than be earning zero as an unemployed RN.
