Hi, I could use some advice. Im afraid that I am responsible for a misplaced hearing aide. Last night I was extremely busy and I failed to put a hearing aide back in its case, now it has gone missing. What if it we cant find it? As a Nurse, it was my responsiblity to put this hearing aide away and it looks like I blew it. I will be going into work later and if its not found Im sure the DON will want to discuss this. How should I proceed? I feel so stupid and embarrassed.

It happens! Have you checked your pockets or even the drawers in the med cart or desk? I love how we need do be responsible for this as the nurse. We even have it written as an order and placed on our TARs. Half the the CNAs are taking them out then handing them to me...ugh! Our facility will pay for it if the res doesn't have insurance on it.

Your facility is insured for this kind of loss. Check the laundry too.

Note: An aide is a person. An aid is an inanimate object.

Had a elderly patient tell me he lost his hearing aid. He had me all over the floor...on my hands and knees looking for the thing, all the while he was laying in bed screaming (not angry, he just couldn't hear) telling me how expensive the thing was. After about 10 mins. He touched his ear and "oh it's in my ear, i forgot to turn it on."

He was a cute little old man so I just laughed...
