Have any of you seen this on a patient?

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but...I am in first semester ADN school. I had my first "real" patient this week. Amongst the problems he is being treated for is a "rash" on his sacrum. Well, I've never seen a "rash" like this before. They were large (about 1-2 cm) irregularly shaped white filled pustules scattered across his sacrum and buttocks. He was being treated with Polymyxin-B powder once day. He has metastatic prostate cancer as well. I mention this in case it may have something to do with the "rash". Has anyone seen anything like this before? My instructor thought it may be candida but I've never seen candida like that before. I searched on the internet and my books and haven't seen anything like it.

I'm done with his case but its been bothering me and I want to know what it is. It wasn't classified as anything but a "rash" in his chart.

Sounds to me like it's definitely some type of fungal infection.

You'll find lots of great information on this board, but it's probably a big mistake for anyone to try to diagnose a rash sight unseen.

Was the pt diabetic as well?

The pt wasn't diabetic. Also, I wasn't trying to get a diagnosis, just a direction as to what it possibly could be, like one poster said, sounds like something fungal. I appreciated that direction.
