Disciplinary action, How long after?

How long after an infringment (sp) do you have to formally write some one up? I would say immediatly or no latter than a week is appropriate. Now if the information came to the supervisors attention much later, then asap? Does this question make sense? My DON waits for ever to hand out discipline (Well she'll wait to fill the schedule for the week). A nurse who doubles 5 days a week was written up for calling off a month ago. This DON used her for the doubles, then wrote her up. Shouldn't it be ASAP, esp for incidents that affect pt care

My comment regarding a signature on a disciplinary action was merely to illustrate how stupid and illegal to withold pay checks unless (write up) is signed.

I am aware that it goes into the employee's file, signed or unsigned.

A signature on such is not an admission of guilt, simply an acknowledgement that

it has been read.

.... pure speculation.........

How can it be pure speculation when it is already an assumption? Perhaps somewhere over the rainbow one can find these ideal situations, but in Dorothy's real world I stand by my comment. I will go even further and say that in many cases the entire facility knows before the person involved.

We have a very complicated system of write-ups where I work. For attendance: the first one is verbal...but it gets written down and the employee has to sign, then a written, then another written then a suspension and then termination. However, if the employee doesn't call out again in the alloted time, they go back to warning #1. Most of the CNA's think it's a joke. They know they won't get fired and most of them don't give a hoot if they get written up.

Hi Huq, I wasn't making the comment necessarily to you that if you don't sign it still goes in the file. It was just a comment in general. Many employees at first will assume if they don't sign it...it doesn't count.

Regarding the speculation/assumption...it's just that. Obviously in the real world you haven't been in every facility, neither have I. I have seen what you are talking about in some facilities...but not all. So I stand by what I said.

I just don't think it's right to judge the whole on a portion.

Hello Chained Chaos.

We obviously have very different opinions, but there is one thing we can both do. Agree to disagree and still remain polite and friendly.

Is this not the basis of all good forums?

Hi Huq,

Definitely it is...and I thought that was what we were doing? Kind of nice seeing the Geriatric forum coming alive...isn't it? When I first joined days and days would go by and no one posted here.

Where would one find the local labor board?

The latest escapade was holding our checks until all "holes" in 3 months worth of MAR's and TX sheets were filled in.....

Julie,

I use MSN search type in: (your states name) department of labor and industries...or some variation on the title and you should get a hit.
