CNA's who spend their time talking to each other in the hallway

I have noticed that some of the CNA's get together in the evenings and hang out in the hallway chatting amongst themselves. When I was a CNA, I never had any time to chit chat while on duty. A CNA told me that a patient had a fall. I asked her which room and went to check on her. I entered the room and found her sitting on the bed. I asked the CNA what happened. The CNA told me that she picked up the patient off the floor and put her on the bed BEFORE she came and got me!!!! The good CNA's here are always busy with their patients. So how are the CNA's at your facility?

If a CNA finds a fallen resident, they are not trained to assess prior to moving them, plus at our facility we obtain ortho BPs before getting the resident up. Having a CNA move a fallen resident prior to a nurse assessment would not fly where I work.

Yes, I was pretty shocked when she told me what she had done. I would have thought that in her CNA class she would have been taught to never move a patient but to get the nurse instead. Anyone, I told her that if it ever happens again to not move the patient but to go and get the nurse to evaluate. She said OK.

Just my $0.02 (and you may have done this) but also explain WHY you want them to get a nurse first. I've always found better cooperation if they understand why I want something done the way I want it done.

I noticed at my facility there are are several CNAS who often have time to just talk. But to be truthful, there are some nurses who sit at the desk and talk with them for 2hours straight!! I dont have a clue how that works, because I never have time to sit and talk for hours on end. Twenty minutes tops!!! lol

Nurses who sit at the desk and talk for 2 hours straight!!!! I don't have time to pee let alone actually talk to someone. That's amazing!
