You must be excited about your new career! First...be on time to your interview and dress properly...no tight jeans or belly shirts. Have your resume' ready and be prepared to give a copy of your nursing license, driver's license, and social security card.

Concentrate on what you know...yes, you're new, but you have experience in the long term care arena. You already know how to deal with old people and that is a big help in this business. Be flexible....don't think you'll get the 'best' shift as a brand new nurse. Ask about the staffing levels..orientation...support. Ask to tour the building and pay attention to what you see. Does the staff look harried? Do they interact with the residents? Does the place smell? Is the staff friendly?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Congratulations on your role transition.

If the organization you are applying to has a website, visit it to see what they are all about. Read their annual report and other news information to get ideas of what interest you about them. Bring up these points during an interview to show your resource skills and interest in their organization.

Know yourself and what you can bring to their organization and the patient care.

Know your short and long term goals and be specific about them.

Good luck.

Thank you for the advice. I had a great interview. Have you just ever walked into a place and felt like you belonged there? Well that is exactly what happened to me. I applied at 3 different places and all 3 called me back. The place I chose is a smaller facility. When I first arrived I had a few minutes and could see the resident and staff interaction. I liked what I saw. It seemed more like a family setting. Nice clean place. I feel I made the right decision.
