I have heard that the CC ADN programs are often just as competitive if not moreso than University BSN programs. Maybe because of the lower cost? I just know the GPA and Kaplan score Saadia Jackson mention in the meeting is lower than what they were quoting for Athens Tech when I went to their info session a couple years ago.
Blue, have you also applied to Athens Tech? I applied to both & I agree with you. The GPA and test scores they quoted were much higher than the ones mentioned at the Gwinnett meeting last week.

I was told Athens tech lost their accreditation... is this wrong?

I've applied there and they have not lost their accreditation. They have the highest NCLEX pass rate in Georgia, from what I know their admission requirements are very high, they only take 50 people. I've also applied to North Georgia & Gwinnett Tech.

They actually started out at the top of my list. I live right between them and GTC, I liked where they did clinicals, and I LOVE my drive to get there. Since they don't participate in the federal student loan program, I had to pull them from my list. Sadly, my family and I need that money in order for me to go to school.
IIRC, the numbers they were quoting 2 years ago were something like 3.7 GPA and 90-something percentile on the NLN entrance exam. GTC's numbers have come up since I first started school shopping a couple years ago, but they're still lower then ATC.
I would be surprised if they had. Like rednurse said, they have the highest pass rate. 100% for 2009, 2011 and 2012, and 98% for 2010 (1 person didn't pass). (Source: http://sos.georgia.gov/plb/rn/NCLEXSCORES.pdf) They're very well regarded in the area. I know Brenau was scaled back to conditional accreditation approval because of their pass rates in 2010 and 2011, but it looks like they started to rebound in 2012.
Paid my Kaplan exam fee today!
I guess that is just a prime example of misinformation then. Thanks for the clarification!
I also went and paid for the Kaplan today :)

I wonder who will be taking their tests tomorrow. Kind of scary....
I was kind of wondering. If your current work schedule does not allow you to work and go to school, where do you get loans to cover your monthly bills? I was hoping my credit union would fill in the gap but I just found out they only provide loans for 4yr programs.
That is a great question... I just wish I had an answer. I don't know why you couldn't take out some of the school loans that are offered, but I don't know much about it. I have a ten year old and I only work part time but I am fortunate enough to have a fiancee that will support me during this time.
You're telling me! I just checked; it even looks like tomorrow's test is full, since it doesn't show up as a scheduling choice. I suppose people who feel ready for the test would rather get it over with. I'm not one of those people.
Are you already getting full financial aid from the school including Pell, subsidized/unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and Federal Work Study? After that, you have private loans: Sallie Mae, Wells Fargo has a program, etc. The Financial Aid office may be able to point you in the right direction.

Is anyone else taking the Kaplan on the 29th?
