Hello!

I've been accepted into Emory's Nursing Program for this coming fall. I am attending GPC right now, finishing up my prereq's. I don't think you're too old at all to attend the program. I know of people older than you who have been accepted. If I were you, I would attend a two year college and then transfer, especially if you've been out of school for a while, that way you won't need any SAT scores.

You are NOT TOO OLD!! Emory, what an honor...Accept!!!

You are not too old! I'm more than a few years older than you and I am starting Emory this fall! I have taken all of my prereqs at GPC just like Light. Good luck!

The biggest issue is the $$$ and your ability to recoup the expenses. Schools like emory are expensive and if you have to take out loans, remember you have to start paying them back 6 months after you graduate. The reality is if your going to be a good nurse, you'll be as good a nurse graduating from a state school as you will graduating from emory. Once you way all your optins, then go for it. Age has nothing to do it. I had a student at Standford that was 45 when he started school.

I am 56 and planning to apply to Emory. Please stop obsessing about age. I started doing that at about age 36 only to learn there was another whole lifetime in front of me. I will tell you what a 68 year old man told me when I was 36 and crying that I was too old to realize my dreams---he said, "You are a baby in the whole scheme of things. I wish I could be 36 again. I would do a lot of things differently." Now that I am 56 I truly understand the value of his advice.

I am graduating from Emory's program on May 11th. I am 33. We have a 58yo in our class. The class that graduated before us had a 59yo.

I'll never forget something that Ann Landers said in one of her columns. A woman had written in and complained about her husband wanting to go to law school at the age of 38. She said, "Ann, it will take my husband 7 years to finish law school and he'll be 45 years old!!" Ann's reply to her was, "How old will he be in 7 years if he doesn't go to law school?"

That pretty much says it all if you ask me, Live you DREAM!

You are never too old! I'm 43 with 5 children and grandchildren. Go to any school that you feel will suite you. The pay afterwards will be the same regardless of where you went to school. I go to a school that offeres a BSN and is convenient to my location. But if I didn't get accepted there, I would have taken just about any nursing school that wanted to give me a spot in there class.

Age has nothing to do with the ability to get through the program. My ealier post was only directed at a cost/benifit/return ratio. Emory is a good school but at 50 will you actually get enough finacial return to warent the expense. And it's not only Emory but anyone of many other private schools. If you have to borrow $35-50K to get through school you'll be paying off the student loans till you retire.

I see your point on the expenses. That is one of the reasons I chose the school I'm at now.

Age is just not what it used to be....

I've retired from one career in my very early 40's and will be 50 soon.

For the past 5 years I've taken college classes here and there.

Going back to school is one of the best decisions I've every made!!!!
