Gwinnett Tech Gunning for Nursing Fall 2014

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hey room! My name is Rachel. I am a pre-nursing student attending Gwinnett Technical College. Thus far, I have completed remedial math, Honors Psych, US History, Research Strat, Choices for Life, with strat and choices for GPC pre-reqs, but I transferred. I am currently taking College Algebra(Summer) and will begin science courses this Fall(2012). So the droop and withdraw rate at the college is and est. 50%. Holy guacamole...So, for my situation I am married, living at home with my husband's family and our 8 month old, Kaleb. I can't afford a babysitter so I work to days out of the week, which gives me plenty of time to play with my son :). I stay home during the day and take things slow, maybe to times a week when it comes to my class schedule.

That being said, I will begin Anatomy 1 and Lab. I chose the hybrid class for Tuesdays on campus from 6p-7:20, and then the same instructor for the Lab Tuesdays 7:30p-10:20. I am taking one science course at a time. So I should finish pre-reqs next Fall(2013). I anyone else doing something along those lines who wants a consistent study buddy. My hours are pretty fair and flexible too. I like working together for a common cause. If not, but still you are attending the school, and would like to share, by all means pls do. Thanks for reading and hopefully we can meet!

Have a Blessed week!

Wow thats great, yeah with that score I'm sure you are in! My gpa is 3.95. So hopefully that'll help! I'm not going to stress out until I get my letter though..whats done is done.

I'm sure you'll be fine with that GPA and Kaplan. If I am correct in what I've read on here regarding the acceptance formula, that puts you at an 89.375 out of 100! Seems pretty damned good to me!

edit: That is also assuming the top score was 100, which I'm sure nobody will get. The farther from 100 the top score is, the more weight is added to your GPA!

Does gwinnett tech look at your entire GPA? Or do they just look at the classes they require? Also, how was the HESI? Can someone please let me know. And good luck to all you that are applying!

From what I've read they look at your entire GPA unless they have to really differentiate between students then they look at the GPA just for your core classes. GTC uses the Kaplan exam, not the HESI and I've never taken that before so I don't know. Thanks Bilateral10G, hopefully I will be your classmate in fall :).

So I have a degree from another school so does that mean they would consider those courses. Or would they only consider the courses that they accepted for transfer credit. Thanks for the response PVasquez. I meant the Kaplan lol. I'm clearly looking at too many schools and their requirements lol

Only the ones they accept for transfer credit I believe, but you should check with the admissions office to be sure.

They go by a percentile. So far I believe 91 might be the highest so those are at 100 for kaplan. Then you work your way down.

NeoNatMom,

when you took the hybrid AP 1 how was it??? You took it over the summer right? Do you have any suggestions as far as studying?

I plan on taking that class this summer since the one I have is set to expire.

Thanks PVasquez. The school as a whole only take the transfer credits into consideration but the program itself only look at the required prerequisites

Hi there!

I never took AP1 hybrid. I did take AP2 hybrid however. I felt like hybrid gave me more time outside of lecture to study the material. If you like to handle your own time its perfect for you. I dont know if they offer hybrid for summer. I would look into it. AP1 should be easier hybrid and you can be in open lab more learning bone markings a muscles etc. I hope this helps!

I'm taking A&P II Fall 2014, is anyone here trying to get in Fall 2015?? Maybe we can get together to study for the Kaplan Exam.

I also registered for A/P I this morning :) I am a stay at home mom of three a 2 year, 3 year and 10 year old. I have a/p 1 and 2, microbiology and college algebra left. I plan to apply at the end of 2014 to mercer, emory and gtc.

How is it going bamiwife06?

I was able to pull an A in A&P with an overall grade of 98% in Lecture & 101% in Lab. I registered for A&P2 this fall and ENGL 1102, but felt I should have taken Micro over the summer instead of Chemistry... It's sad that I won't be applying to GTC this year since I did not take Micro. Made up my mind this August that I won't be going to Emory anymore even though I have almost all the prereqs ready (why pay over 70-100k for a degree I can get for 5k?). Planning on getting preggo with baby #3 this fall (because I won't be able to do that when I get into nursing school), while I take A&P2, 1102, and if possible take the TEASV exam, and apply into a BSN program hopefully. Happy I'm still on a 4.0 and looking to maintain it through this weird schedule of mine. Grrrrrh!

However, I love Gwinnett Tech... I don't know if to proceed with my schedule but without the TEAS exam, take some nursing classes during my spare time in 2015, and look forward to applying towards the fall of 2016? It does sound too far right? I'm actually confused now.

Will appreciate any suggestion out there.

HELP!?????
