GPC Fall 2014 hopefuls

U.S.A. Georgia

Hi everyone! Just putting feelers out to see who is planning to apply to GPC for next Fall. I am taking my last pre-req, A&P II, this semester at GPC (well, almost last, still have to do that one credit Research class), and pondering when to take the TEAS. Before this semester I was out of school for a couple of years, and had kind of deferred my desire to attend nursing school. But it kept calling me, and I realized I HAVE to go for this now before my Science pre-reqs expire. GPC is actually the only school I've been able to find so far that lists them as good for six years as opposed to the usual five.

I'll be honest, I think I have a chance, but I also think it's a long shot. A lot is riding on how well I do on my TEAS, and getting an A in this class. In the beginning I was feeling very low about my chances, but recently my mindset has shifted, and I am feeling that hunger and drive to be accepted to nursing school. I definitely don't lack the brains, but I'm in recovery, so I have a spotty academic record. If I make an A in this class I will have a 3.0 in my Science pre-reqs and a 3.6 GPA for all the pre-reqs combined.

I also have concerns about my background check, as there are a few things on there, the most serious of which is very old - 16 years. So . . . one part of me knows that I have to cultivate an attitude of "whatever it takes" to get in. Retaking classes, applying for LPN as well, whatever I have to do.

It's pretty daunting to feel so simultaneously hopeful and excited about having a chance, and dwelling on the negative factors and seriously big mistakes that may kill my chances.

I'm really having to take it one step at a time. And every time I see someone in the cafeteria wearing the student nurses uniform I just think about how much I want to be wearing that uniform myself. It's something I really need for my life, my self-esteem, my family, to pursure this successfully. So that's me.

Where are you all in your journey? What are your concerns, struggles, hopes, and mindset? I look very forward to hearing from others. Even though we're competing against each other, we're still in it together and I think support is so valuable.

Tell me your story!

Hello keepmovingrn! I'm in the same boat as ATLback2RN. I have no idea yet... I keep checking my ati account and nothing. :whistling: Your results for teas v test does give me hope, though! Thanks for the pep talk to others! I was really hoping to do much better than I did. I was so distracted. I can see both girls from my peripheral vision on each side of me. Every time they would erase an answer or turn the booklet page, it would distract me. There goes more seconds off my timed tests! :sarcastic:[/quote']

Hey! I understand how stressful the waiting can be on finding out results. When I took it, it was on the commuter and I got my results right away after the test.

GPC looks at the reading and math scores mainly on the teas. I will go and try to find my teas score sheet and look at my individual scores and tell you what they where.

Please find it! Lol :) I need more hope haha.

That's funny because I was thinking about going to Dahlonega to retake my test too (that is if I scored lower than a 77 which I probably did)! At least there you have a cubicle with no one in your peripheral vision to distract you! I HATE waiting for test results! I'm still indecisive though on when I should take it, if I have to go that route... I took the teas yesterday at the same time as you. I didn't expect so many people. There was another group at 2 p.m. also, and if I would've known, I would have taken that time! Yes, it was my first time taking it. I really wished I would've taken the practice tests online, but nothing I can do now... just pray and hope for the best. And again, if it's not what you wanted, maybe something better will come around in the long-run![/quote']

Hahahaha. You are hysterical and sound identical to me! Out of all the seats in the room this dude sits RIGHT beside me when most ppl at least had a space to the right and left of them. Oh and this dude finished in record time every single section so he would sit there w his book closed and stare at me. It was so distracting and so terrible. Worst experience. And like u I was so mad when they offered the 2pm session bc I had already rushed to sign up for the 4th!!!! UGH!!!!! I bet the 2 was nice and empty AND we could've slept in. Hahaha. Oh well. I've got to let it go now lol just know you aren't alone. I was having the same issues.

Well we shall see! I keep checking too like a stalker. If I don't score high enough I think dahlonghea is the closest. I'm leaning towards the 16th bc I think the 27th is cutting it too close. But this could all be unnecessary talk ;)

I meant to say the 9am session***

Well, if they look mostly at those two (reading and math), then I definitely have to retake it cause those were the two that I did bad in... We'll soon see...

:roflmao: Yes! "Stalkers Are Us!" Funny cause I was thinking when I last checked it, "I wonder how many people are logging in at the same time to check to see if their scores are up?" I DO hope this is all "unnecessary talk." I do wonder though how many people are applying there. I did see it was easier to get into Clayton University, but they have so many pre-reqs that I haven't even taken yet. At least that option is there though. Better to be at a nursing program than no program at all! I'm at least going to do some pre-reqs in the meantime (for my bachelors).

Yup. Exactly! That was my plan. If GPC were to not work out. I planned to apply to Clayton once I knock out all the prereqs. I planned to apply to both but then I read u have to have the core done and I definitely don't have all those courses yet. You're absolutely right. There are options. All depends where we are meant to be in the end.

I'm thinking Tuesday we will find out bc everyone that I know that took it at mercer found out on the following Tuesday.

Hello..

I'm a hopeful but GPC is my second choice. I actually just applied to the school and hope I can get everything in on time (lol.)

I have a question: The nearest TEAS testing site to me is GSU however on the registration page it mentions not to pay for the test if you don't plan to apply to GSU. I am confused! Where is everyone taking the TEAS?

Anyway, I have no idea what to even prep for. I've been prepping for the Kaplan and I have NO idea what the TEAS is going to be like. My study buddy wing it without finishing AP2 and she managed to make an 83 on it, however she has taken chem and I haven't.

I have a 4.0 GPA in the sciences but have no idea what my GPA for the other electives are until they are transferred in from my other schools.

Blah!! Really stressful. Good luck on those who are still trying to take the TEAS, and congrats to everyone who has!!

Hi, 2014 GPC hopefuls... I plan to take the TEAS for the first time on Jan. 9 @ 1230. Can anyone give me an idea of which section appeared to be the hardest for them?

It depends on the individual and what his or her strengths are. I panicked on the reading and math and wasn't able to finish both on time. Surprisingly, I had around 25 minutes left for the science section and maybe 15 minutes or so left on the English section. Too bad I couldn't use the leftover time to finish the math and reading section. I was very disappointed about that. Just don't take too long an any question. Easier said than done, of course. I was very stressed starting the test to begin with because my car wouldn't start that morning and had to get a ride there and thought I wasn't going to be able to take the test. Don't stress like me and focus and try not to sit exactly next to anyone who you can see through your peripheral vision. That was a huge distraction for me.

Ok I'm pretty sure I know who you are now. You came last to the test I think. You were in my lab this past semester and we briefly talked after our lab final along w a few others outside the classroom lol. You wear braids right? I never forget a face. I saw u come in late for the test. Was trying to get your attention to tell u to grab paper and pencils from the front desk but I saw you figured it out. Ummm if all that happened to me before taking the test u can forget it. Id be a wreck too. Yea I do recall when u walked in there really weren't many seats left. U had to sit between two ppl. What a mess!!! Ugh. I personally think they allowed too many to test that day. Still impatiently waiting for these test results. I can't tell u how many times I've checked today. Ugh.

As long as you go through the ATI book and if u can do the online tests u should be good to go. I just didn't study work rate problems. I was aware there would be a question of this type on the test. However I had like 4. Just my luck. I found math to be tricky. The others sections I think I did okay in.
